Does anybody know of any current deals on a MP3 player? I know nothing about these, but DH wants one for Christmas.
I knew if there were any great deals to be had, my dis friends would know about them.

But you might want to wait on purchasing one. Microsoft & SanDisk have both recently announced they will be bring MP3 players to the market. i would assume (hope) that the competition would bring down the prices.

Apple just released a new version of the Ipod Nano and it is less than what I paid for one 3 months ago (which I could've waited for if I knew they were coming out with new ones). Like the previous poster said, you may want to wait and see if prices go down.

One of the things to decide on ahead of time is how much storage space is needed. I use mine primarily for books so I can get a lot of books on even a 512 MP3 player.

I have a 1G Sandisk, but I don't use that much. Someone like my sister who has her entire music collection on it needs a HUGE one.

Also I prefer batteries as it is often not convenient to recharge the batteries for a rechargeable one - example an international flight or trip. Some people do not want to be bothered with batteries - plus one w/o removable batteries will be slightly thinner.

Ipods are by far the most popular but will cost more. Overstock.com often has some deals.

I feel like the only person that doesn't have an ipod :guilty: Does anyone think there will be a deal on these by Christmas??

sandisk has had mp3's on the market for quite sometime. I bought one 6 months ago.

Thanks everyone, please post if you see a great deal and keep looking.

I actually looked at the SanDisk 512MB yesterday through Staples, they have a rebate where you get the mp3 free after mail in rebate, but you have to buy Palm E2 (if I remember correctly) with it.

the costco near me has a 1G sandisk player (with FM radio) for $55 that seems like a fair price.

for ipods, if you have a large music collection, i would take a look at the apple store at apple.com and click on the red "save" ticket. refurbished 30G video ipods are available for $179 with a one-year warranty.

I would keep an look out at www.fatwallet.com and www.dealsea.com

Hubby bought my MP3 player on deal sea for a great price after rebates.

On purchasing an MP3 player that is right for you/your husband, think about their digital music collection and think about what they will be purchasing digitally in the future. I have seen too many of my friends buy into the hype of Ipods and they barely use the 20 GB available to them and have not purchased any new music since they bought the thing over two years ago.

For most people, in my experience and opinion, any player that can hold up to 1GB of music is more than plently. But of course you know your husband best, so perhaps an Ipod will be the machine for him.

I plan on purchasing 2 (1 for DD and 1 for DH) for Christmas and am looking for deals between now & then too. I have been told (by CC & BB and others) that SanDisk is really good. It apparenly rivals the Ipod, but is much cheaper, has FM stereo and you can download from most places instead of just Itunes. I plan on buying either the Sansa e250, m240 or another one, but just waiting to see if the price comes down in the next 2 months.

We got my nephew a sandisk one and he seems happy with it. An ipod was too much money, and we were also worried about him damaging the screen.

DH & I (& my mom) have iPods. We're happy with them. Mom has a mac, so it made sense. I got DH's mini a while ago, so when it was time for me to get one, it made sense to get what DH & my mom had. I have the 30 ipod video. I mostly use it in the car, so the physical size is fine. As for storage space, I've started putting photos and audio books on it, with no issues so far.

If you have a specific budget that may help you figure it out.

I just bought one on Ebay - a Creative Labs Zen Nano. It has good reviews on Amazon. With shipping it cost me $75. It's 1GB, holds 500 songs, is very tiny and uses 1 AAA battery. This is the first MP3 player I've owned, it's easy to use and sounds fine. I love it!

The only problem is I think I got a great deal but then you have to get accessories - FM tuner, carry case, etc....

Thanks to everyone for your posts and please keep a look out for a deal. I'm still looking. I really like the SanDisk 512MB. I think that should do for my dh.

Could anyone tell me what the difference is between the IPOD and the MP3 players? My son has an IPOD Nano so I know how it works but my DD9 wants an IPOD for Christmas and I think I would rather get her an MP3 player because of the price being less and her being younger. I was thinking about getting the Disney MP3 player with the jam stand. That would be about $90 instead of $200 for an IPOD. Are the music file types they support different? The IPOD has been really easy for us to figure out and I just want to make sure the MP3 players are equally as easy and you don't have to convert files, etc. Thanks. I know someone here is much more technically savvy than I am. :teeth:

An Ipod is a MP3 player made by Apple. The difference is the cost, and the popularity of the ipod. you can download songs on itunes, any other site or transfer the ones on your computer from CD's to either mp3 player. They all work the same. Some ipods have video capabilities. The nano can hold pictures, but I'm pretty sure it can't hold video. Most mp3 players also have digital organizer features(phone book) now like the ipod has.

We bought a nano for my husband's sister last christmas and I wouldn't do it again. Also, her apple ear nubs that came with it have broken and it has gotten scratched up quite a bit. The good thing about the nano is if you order online you can get it engraved for free and they deliver quick, within 3 days of ordering.

We also bought an mp3 player for my husband, but not an Ipod. I will find out the brand and post it. It is quite good and pretty trendy looking. It has alot of features and good sound.

My husband has a samsung mp3 player. They don't have the exact model at circuit city anymore, but it's a brand that is easy to use and we would recommend it.

I found out something else about the Ipod. My SIL had a bunch of songs on her ipod and ipods load music through the itunes playlist. When she was at her friends, she plugged hers in to the friends computer which had an empty playlist and then her playlist completely erased.

Most other mp3 players (ones that don't require special software...something you should check before purchasing) act as a usb flash drive and you add files by through windows, moving your files around as you would when organizing your files.

I hope this helps...
