Need More Convincing

I’m one of those fence sitters. I’ve been reading about DIS Con for months now, and I think it sounds fabulous. I’ve even had a few dreams that I was there! It’s getting very tempting!

However, something keeps stopping me from deciding to go. Maybe it’s because I’m sort of new around here, and I’m afraid I’ll feel like a fifth wheel. Or, maybe it’s because you all seem to be real ‘party animals,’ and I’m sort of reserved (quiet, shy, hum-drum). Or, maybe I just need a good shove off of that darn ol’ fence!

Something inside me keeps telling me that I should go – that I need to go. And, also, that a wild, crazy diversion like this is just what I need.

So, can/will anyone help convince me to go? Please help! If I don’t go, I think I’ll probably regret it. Perhaps there’s a ‘party animal’ inside me, just waiting to be set free!

Seriously, Diane, we are not party animals. We just get really silly around each other. You need to read the "personal stories" written here on this board just recently. They all talk about being nervous about coming and that fear that they'll feel odd or left out. What everyone of them, and me too, found out is that all those fears were for nothing! You will just fall into place with all of us and you'll feel like you've always known us and that we've known you.
You won't be sorry! You'll have the best time ever!!

Please do come! I'm not a party animal either, and I am sure there are lots of other DIS CON attendees just like us. When I went to my first DIS meet I was very new to the DIS also, but I still had a great time (and it was a short meet--nothing nearly as cool as DIS CON)! I wouldn't worry about that fifth wheel thing at all. I've always been welcomed with open arms at DIS meets--we're a really friendly bunch of folks! Come on and join us--it will be my first DIS CON also, so we can hang out.

Barb and ead79 - thanks so much for responding! That's just what I wanted to 'hear!' I've read the personal stories, and I've thought, 'that could've been me!'

You sound like such a wonderful group of people, and I'd really like to be a part of the group! Actually, in my soul, I feel like I'm already a part of the group!

With a little luck, I'll be there - at DIS Con II - come December!

Ok first things first, I am not "evil"

I was scared to death to go to DISCON 1. The only person I knew was Tia I hadn't been hanging out on the DISCON board so I really knew practically nothing about anyone else. I had been out of work for about 6 months due to disabilities, my husband had just gotten a new job and I was ready to get out of town so I cashed in the frequent flyer miles, got out the old credit card and went to DISCON 1 with no idea what I was getting myself into. I was petrified. I was using my wheelchair and was worried that I would tire out and be spending most of my time in my room missing out on all the fun. Boy was I wrong.

I met some of the nicest people. Everybody took turns pushing me around when I was tired even when I claimed I wasn't (which I was). I had a ball and even if I never was able to go again I am glad I went to DISCON 1. Luckily things have worked out and I am able to go to DISCON 2. Wouldn't miss it for the world. I can't wait to see these people again. I love getting the postcards from WDW from my new friends.

I know when you read the threads on this board you probably think boy these people are crazy. Admit it I know that is what I would think. But we are just having some fun we don't drink all the time or believe the IASW dollies are out to get us (although it is true)

So get off that fence on the right side, register for DISCON 2 and experience it and us live in person at WDW. You'll be glad that you did.

Barb is right....most of us aren't really party animals....I am SO looking forward to this.....!!!!!!

I look forward to giggling, being together, ya know, stuff we did as kids and can't do now anywhere but WDW!!!!

Do you want to sign up for the NEWBIE mini meets? They are going to be a way to meet a few persons first and that will help you feel more comfortable with the bigger crowd.

I never actually believed that you were 'evil' - that's just some kind of sinister plot, I'm sure! Though I'm not so sure about the dollies!

I've witnessed some of the craziness on this board, and I've laughed my head off! But, in person, I'm afraid I'll seem quite stoic! Don't let the facade fool you, though!

Let me put it this way. Last month while passing through the town of Longview where our dear Dalepool aka Patty lives, I looked her phone number up in the phone book and called her. We had previously arranged to meet but she had never given me her phone number so she thought I wasn't coming. Little did she know.

We meet at Denny's. Mind you, we had never met before, we talked for 3 hours at that Denny's about everything. It was like meeting a long lost friend.

That is what DISCON is like. There will be at least one person there that will meet that description if not many. Things will fall into place and you will be laughing and giggling with the rest of us.

Besides no one can remain stoic for very long with little to no sleep. PS: we don't sleep because we don't want the fun to stop.

OkieDisney - I am most definitely interested in the newbie meets! Although, I think I may only be there from the 4th 'til the 8th. I'll have to wait 'til I check on the airline reservations...

OH MY GOSH, airline reservations? !, that means that I'm going!

Piece of cake. Simple, easy as pie. It is making that step toward going to DISCON that counts. Everything falls into place after that.

Diane----This will be my first D-2. Bless Tammy's big heart. Tammy and her DH went out of their way to meet me and my husband. I was like you---do I go to D-2 ...do I stay home and wish I would have gone.....I did that last year and felt sorry for myself for a month or two after D-1. As soon as the first person posted a thread on D-2 I knew I was going. At worse I'll make a couple of new FRIENDS...At best I'll make lots of new LIFE LONG FRIENDS. Disney Makes me happy......And I'm looking forward to spending time with others who get joy from the World of Disney.

I hope you decide to come and meet everyone.....You just never know who will become that life time friend.

Diane, last year we were all like you are now. Man, I almost cancelled about four times right before going. I was terrified!!! I went though, and had the time of my life. SO much so, that I wouldn't miss it for the world this time. You just have to go!!! You will have a blast, and don't worry about being stoic....we have a way of getting you to enjoy yourself no matter what you are like!!!

See, Diane, what did I tell you? It's only natural to have reservations about meeting a bunch of strangers from the internet. ROTFL
But once you meet everyone, we all just fall into place and have the best time! The newbie meets will help, too. You can "get your feet wet" with others that are attending for the first time. I'm glad you've decided to come!!

I'm from Buffalo, we are not that far away from each other. Did you check Southwest airlines out of Buffalo? SWA has some good deals and a non-stop flight to Orlando. Hope to meet you at DISConII
