Need input...might have to cancel !

Hi Mikesmom,

I would say play it by ear. You say the trip is during week 7? So that means your DH will have been going to therapy for 6 weeks rior, correct? he should by that time have a good idea of what his therapy is, have him talk to his therapist about giving him some exercises he can do on his own for the week.

If the docs are predicting he could be all set by week 6, then think positive. I know when he first comes out of surgery, he is going to be telling you to cancel the trip because there is no way he will feel better by then, but 6 week post-op is a huge recovery time and in all probability, he may be slowed down a bit, but he will prbably be able to take over his own therapy for a week, so you can enjoy you trip!

If you get closer to the date of the trip, and DH is is no way ready to go anywhere, then your friends should completely understand if you have to cancel. If they put up a stink, then offer them the ressie, but RENT it to them. But, I am sure you won't have this problem, because you will be going and having a great time!

Update: Had dinner with our friends tonight and they were wonderful about it, of course. Basically since we are still well out from 30 days we decided not to decide until we have the post-surgery information. They also reminded us that one of them is an RN and not many recuperating patients get to travel with their own private nurse!

It does look like we will all cancel and look forward to next year if DH is not up to par for the trip. But agian, we will cross that bridge in a few weeks.

I hope things go well, and you're able to go this year.

If you can rent him a scooter, I think he should be okay by then. You see folks of all physical conditions at WDW. Of course, the best advice is to consult your doctor first.

DW has bad knees, and she just had arthoscopic surgery on her knee, a couple of days ago. She's now had the procedure on both... In fact, her first knee injury occured at Typhoon Lagoon. She limped around the parks for a couple more days...and had surgery a few weeks later. This year, she's got 3 months to get her knee back in shape. Plenty of time. Either way, I don't think it would stop us, though.
