Need info about Ft. Lauderdale Please

My niece is going to Ft. Lauderdale over Spring Break (between Palm Sunday and Easter). She is only 17 and I am concerned about her being there with only 2 friends. They are staying at the Best Western Oceanside Inn. Does anyone know about this motel? Is it in a safe area? Are there places to eat near by? They are not old enough to rent a car! Any information would be helpful. Thank-you.

Here is some info about the hotel and places in the area. I haven't been to Ft. Lauderdale in many years.

Well, I don't know the specific hotel you are talking about but I looked it up. It's right on the beach, obviously. All of the beaches there are free. When we go to Ft. Lauderdale we usually go to the beach at the end of Las Olas Boulevard. A few blocks down from Las Olas on the beach is Beachplace Towers. In there are many restaurants, bars and shops.

At the end of Las Olas is the Riverfront. This is a lot of fun when you are under 21, but I think there is a a river cruise that leaves from there that looked like fun, but it rained a lot when we were there, so we weren't able to do it.

In the Riverfront is more shops and restaurants. The Ugly Tuna Saloona has GREAT seafood and is a great restaurant (plus my friend works there, so I'm quite partial to it).

There is also a huge mall in Ft. Lauderdale. It is called the Galleria and has great shops like Saks 5th Ave and Nieman Marcus.

There are many taxi services in town and we used them all vacation. They are not expensive and we always felt safe. The number is 777-7777 or 333-3333.

Thank-you for the link. I have been looking around too. The discriptions can be misleading, although it looks ok from the pictures. It is only rated 2 stars, but that may be because it is older. Anyway I am hopeful that someone will know the area. Thank-you again.

I am from Ft Lauderdale area..born and raised...

Anyplace on Ft Lauderdale beach is fairly safe...It is much better down there then it was about 15 years ago.

I am not sure exactly where the hotel is, but there are only Rich condo people or tourist on FTLAYD beach...rest assured!

Oh, I like seeing the word SAFE! She lives in a very small town in IL and has not traveled really at all even with her family. She of course thinks I am silly to worry. Just picture a teen saying "Kids go on Spring Break all the time and nothing happens" I have offered to go along but she wasn't to happy with that plan. The stuff I have found about the hotel say it is near the beach but I can't tell if it is walking distance. The address is 1180 Seabreeze Blvd. Zip code 33316. Does that help anyone place it? hello!

I know exactly where the hotel is...I have stayed at the Marriott right near it. It is a pretty safe area...there are always lots of people around walking, biking, jogging, etc. My kids and I go to that end of the beach all the time.

Thank-you for the link Dizny4us! The water taxi looks fun. Do you know how expensive food is in that area? For example could they get to McD's or other fast food or will they only find Hotel type resturants? Also is there a good town car service from the airport to the hotels? The girls seem to think the hotel van will pick them up at the airport but I am concerned that they will get there and find this to not be true. I would like something like Happy Limo that would meet them at the baggage claim. You wouldn't want to secretly baby sit them for the week would you! Just kidding!
