I need suggestions on a cell phone "plan" of sorts for when we take DN 15 to WDW in june. WE just want a phone he can use to call us and us call him. I can receive texts on my phone but prefer not to as I pay/text, Dh has texts blocked and friend can receive texts.
I am thinking of getting a trac phone type so i can just load some time on it and leave it at that. The phone will be returned to us after trip so he's not getting to keep it. I really don't think adding another line to our cell phone plan is going to be way to go but is a possiblity.
For all I know his parents may solve problem for me and buy him a new phone, I don't know.

I suggest a TracFone....they have some in the $10-$15 range....look for one that automatically doubles minutes (it will say it on the front of the package). I buy my minutes on the Tracfone website (not a card at Wal-Mart) and then find a code for extra (free) minutes that I find at www.retailmenot.com and enter that code when it's time to check-out on the Tracfone website.

HTH!

I don't think you can get any cheaper than tracfone. They even have codes (I think there is one posted on the BB right now) to add extra minutes. Cheapest card is $20 for 120 and that lasts 90 days. Phones can be found for $10, even less. My BigLots had a couple styles on sale for $7 and $8 and one of them included double minutes for life. After your time expires there is no need to get another and if you do decide to you have 60 or 90 days to add another before your number is deactivated.

Just FYI, texting works MUCH better than voice calls when inside the parks. There is so much ambient noise inside the parks that it can be really hard to hear a voice call. I'd get a cheapy with texting, because that $.25 or whatever will be worth it when you need to connect with him but he cannot answer a voice call while on a ride -- which means that unless you text him, you'll have to wait until you hear back from him before YOU can get on a ride. It's just so much easier to send a text that says "meet us at Auntie Gravity's at 3:30 pm."

Net10 is the cheapest, its .10 per minute and no roaming charges, Tracfone charges more per minute for roaming. Its also .05 per text send and receive.

If you buy it online from net10.com you can get a refurbished phone with 600 minutes for $30.

Add coupons

34567 - $3 off
44477 - $5 off
88121 - Free accessory kit (added to cart automatically when code entered)

So its $22 with free shipping which makes it .03 per minute and 1.5 cents per texts.

DH and I both use tracfone

I got DS a net10 phone b/c he wanted a QWERTY keyboard.

with tracfone double for life minutes and bonus codes you can't go wrong.

net10 is cheap too - cheaper than tracfone w/o bonus codes
