need ideas for gift for dh's cousin

dh's cousin was in the service some years ago, and I think in the reserves for the past 10 maybe? I'm not totally clear on the details. I've been with dh for almost 11 years now and I know his cousin has had a regular job for most of that time. I don't remember him being in the service. anyway, he was re-activated last summer and sent overseas. His wife was in shock, the whole family really. It was supposed to be for a year. we just found out that he is coming home for 2 weeks then going overseas for at least 2 years. I'd like to send him and his wife a gift for the time he is home...any ideas?

How about a gift certificate for a restaurant in their area so that they have have a nice time together.
A gift certificate for a portrait for the two of them to take together to remember his trip back home.

I agree, I think something with food would be nice. They might enjoy a quiet dinner out. Or maybe a nice gift basket with different food (chocolates, fruit, baked goods, whatever they enjoy).
