The hubby and I are planning a quick last minute 3-day trip this week (Jan 13th - 15th) staying at Aventura. I always over plan and constantly feel like we should be doing something which drives the hubby crazy. We live nearby and are AP holders so there will be repeat trips this year so if we miss something we'll catch it next time. I promised these 3 days would be slower and relaxing which means I need help finding places/times to relax! Where's the best place to chill out in the afternoon, we are up for anything (in the parks, city walk, a resort)? Love people watching, best places for this?? How challenging is resort bar hopping in regard to transportation?

I still have yet to enter it, but Strong Water Tavern over at Sapphire Falls is supposed to be fantastic. It’s right across from Aventura, so an easy walk there. We’ve stayed at SF and it’s lovely! (Just ran out of time to visit Strong Water) My goal during our next upcoming trip is to get a drink and appetizer or dessert at Strong Water.

We’ve eaten outside at Margaritaville in Citywalk and it was the perfect place to people watch. We were seated right at the edge and had perfect views of people walking to and from IoA. I could’ve sat and sipped away all afternoon! We had an early lunch there so it wasn’t busy on their patio at all. If you have certain places in mind you may want to check for reservations ahead of time just in case, especially if you’re planning on eating at peak times at table services in Citywalk and the parks.

Transportation among the resorts is easy. Most are walkable while some offer water taxi such as SF, HRH, PBH, RPR. I do sometime want to try the rooftop bar at Aventura. The views are supposed to be amazing.

It`s so easy to get from resort to resort. Boats are available and since you`re at Aventura, you can get the SF one, they`re so close together.

Fat Tuesday`s in Citywalk is a fun place to sit and people watch for a drink and some of the restaurants have outdoor seating like NBC.

Strong Water Bar is the best bar in UOR.....food is fantastic and drinks are amazing, they have the best bar staff of anywhere. They also have outdoor seating if it was warm enough in the evenings, it doesn`t open till 5pm.

Avenura`s Bar17 is fine for views, but there`s something amiss with the whole bar.....and so many folks have said the same thing, nothing special at all.....go for the views then head down to Strong Water for food and drinks.

PB has some nice outdoor areas too.

Confisco Grille in IOA has the Backwater Bar at the side and have outdoor seating, ideal for watching the world go by, they do very good food too.

Chez Alcatraz beside Bruce the Shark in Studios is also ideal for sitting watching the world whizz by you as you relax with one of their cocktails.

The Bar opposite Moe`s Tavern is also nice, but I think their cocktails are not strong enough and not a good pour, even when it`s supposed to be a double measure.

Hope you have a lovely trip.....

If you are okay with leaving the parks, the best place to relax in the afternoon is probably your hotel and possibly the hotel pool depending on whether there are loud kids in or around the pool.

I would just hang out at the Port at Portofino Bay. I think the Opera singers come out once at a certain time in the afternoon.

I agree with all of the recommendations so far - Margaritaville, Strong Water Bar, Portofino Bay for the singing. I will also add that there are some nice locations in the UO park where you can hang out and relax. There is often seating near/around the lake, as well as outside of Men in Black, closer to the Harry Potter area. I enjoyed spending time there with a cold beverage. I would also recommend Cowfish which has nice outdoor seating - food is good (if you like sushi and burgers) and you can get a great view there.

The area behind the Three Broomsticks used to have a really quite, nice patio view of Hogwarts and the lake until it was destroyed by the Velocirapoter.
