You are the experts! I am looking at the vacation rentals by owner site and am wondering what areas are good? For Orlando, they have dozens of different areas and I am clueless:confused:

I think that Celebration is a Disney community. Is that a good area? I just don't want to rent a place that is way far away since I am clueless.

Thanks everyone for a great place to find information:Pinkbounc

I went on the Orlando web site, FLAUSA.com I think? Can't remember exactly, but they sent me a book with all of that stuff in it for free, with maps showing exactly where each area was located. Also, it came with some different places to get discount attraction tickets, and an additional brochure of all the hotels in the area. Plus, they will send you e-mail updates on any specials.

Celebration.....there are no short term rental / vacation homes for rent in this sub-division. They are absolutely banned and if you find anyone advertising them, then you are coming across someone who either hasn't got their house licensed and are flouting the community rules.

What you may have come across is a management company who either lives or rents a small office in Celebration and is renting out other homes in the area. No problem with that.

The closest sub-divisions to Disney are :

West:

Rolling Hills, Emerald Island, Sunset Lakes, Indian Creek, Oak Island, Windsor Palms, Lindfields.

East:

Indian Point, Eagle Point, Cumbrian Lakes, Lake Berkley.

Apologies if I have missed any sub-divisions.

When renting a home remember the golden rules:

1. If renting directly with the owner, is there a local representative, management company to look after any problems?

2. What happens in regard to security deposit, normal deposit etc ?

3. Check credentials with Better Busines Bureau, Chamber of Commerce ?

4. Is MC a member of Central Florida Property Managers Association? If not, why not?

5. How long has MC been in business ?

6. Is the home equipped exactly as you want it ?

7. How far from attractions is the house ?

8. Check booking conditions carefully.

Do all of these things and you'll have a great time. You'll save money compared to staying in a hotel and you'll all have your own space. Can't go wrong ? Rent from the wrong person or company and it will ! If a deal looks too good it usually is !

Enjoy :)

Thanks for the information. I have been using vrbo.com for years and have gotten some great places. But not knowing where to look is hard.

we rented a 6br house in Rolling Hills this past january. it was extremely close to disney! i would do it again in a heartbeat!

KIRSTIN'S MOMMY, I can't find where on the site you can request material. Would love to order the information, can you help me!?!?

JANNYANS, great map:D . We are considering a home in Lindfields. My husband was just asking last night for ease of access details. It looks like there isn't a traffic light to get onto 192 from Lindfields Blvd. Does anyone know if this is true?

lexis53, this map is less detailed but gives a good overview. http://www.orlandovillas.com/map.asp

There is no traffic light at the entrance to Lindfields onto the 192.If you book direct you may find your owner sends out lots of maps and info -I do.

Thanks lexis53!!! I haven't checked my posts in a couple of days, glad you had the answer!!! They sent me a great package with the Orlando Magicard, and lots of booklets and stuff...Hope you find what you're looking for, and have a great time!!!
