Need hotel recommendations in London

Hello, was wondering if anyone could help with a hotel recommendation in London . My husband is going to be spending one night there this Friday and he has never been so will try to see as much as he can that day. I am trying to find him a hotel. It needs to be close to the sights, and under 110 pounds. I checked on expedia.com and the hotel I came up with was the Hilton London Tower Bridge. I choose this because I have 3 kids and don't have time to read the descriptions of the hotels and this one used very precise descriptive words in its write up .

If anyone can recommend a hotel I would be greatful. It doesn't have to be fancy, in this instance, location is most important (and safety, of course). Thanks!

On a side note, my 9 year old wants him to bring back scones (chocolate to be exact ). Of course he won't be able to do that, what souvenir would you suggest that he bring her?

If it's purely somewhere to crash at night (let's face it, you don't need somewhere with leisure facilities, restaurants, etc - they're all within a few minutes walk), then i'd recommend the Travelodge London Farringdon - £70 for one night this friday night. Cheaper than a Hilton, and the underground network is readily accessible from Liverpool St station, as are the buses, and even walking - 5 minutes (roughly) to Oxford Street and lots of christmas shopping opportunities...

I wouldn't normally advocate it, but the fastest way to see all the sights is look into an open-top bus tour - a couple of hours driving round the major sights of london. If he actually wants to do any of the attractions like the aquarium, museums, etc, then it's best if he plans ahead which attractions he wants - i'm more than happy to provide a rough travel plan from point to point if he knows where he wants to visit.

There's a lot of cheesy souvenirs on offer, as with most locations, so plenty of London-branded crud

For something a little different, maybe a quick trip to covent garden - the market is full of unusual items, or maybe a trip to harrods for a Harrods branded teddy-bear - that to me would say "i did london with class" as opposed to "this was the best of the crap available".

Living close to London I've rarely stayed in an hotel there, but I've read good reviews (on these boards) of Rubens (which is near Buckingham Palace) and Premier Travel Inn at County Hall (near Waterloo Station).

If you go to Covent Garden they also have a Disney Store which sells a few London specific souvenirs (sweat shirts, beefeater Winnie-the-Pooh toys and such like.)
