I am a mentally handicapped 30 year old. I never been to an amusement park by myself before. What do I need to know before I try it on my own?

You get this at guest services of each park. Unless, we know specifics it will be hard to say whether this pass will help you, but it could.

Utilize fastpass. You take your park pass to certain more popular attractions and get a special voucher/ticket that allows you back on the ride/show at a certain designated time. This usually cuts your time for waiting in the regular line by half. You can't get multiple ones at the same time, but as each fastpass hits its end time you are eligible for a new one.

Also, go early. You will accomplish a lot more that way. The crowds start getting bad in the afternoon. Use early entry if you are staying on site.

Realize you can't accomplish it all. Pick your favorites ahead of time and plan accordingly. Don't back track too much; it takes away from park time. You may have to back track some with fastpass, but that's worth it.

It would help if you can answer some questions.

When are you going?

Where are you staying?

Which park do you want to go to?

How many days do you plan to go to the parks?

What kind of things do you like to do?

What kinds of things do you NOT like to do?

Are there any things that bother you?

Are there things you need to avoid?

How good are you at reading a map and knowing where you are?

Have you taken a bus before?

Good things to know about me: My weaknesses are: Time mangement, money I can count it and such but I love to spend it, I have hearing loss, knee and leg problems, poor vision at night, hard to see far away and speech problems and I'm very short for my age.

I don't know when or where I'll be staying. I used the senior bus when I worked at subway. I've never been on an airplane in my life so that's something I would like to do cause I can't drive and it's been years since I used a Taxi cab. I live in a group home right now, but hope I can get my own appartment soon. Is there anything else you would like to know? As you can see I am really rearing to be indepent!

Well if you like to spend money I would suggest having a daily budget and putting money in envelopes labeled by each day. That way you will only be able to spend that amount and if you have any left over just carry it over to the next day. If you stay on property you can lock your valuables in a room safe. Most everything else will depend on the others the other poster asked.

I love that ideal. What is going on an airplane like anything I need to know?

Get to the airport very early. This means anywhere from two to four hours before the plane is actually set to depart. You will need to check in at your airline. Be careful not to get lost, here. Don't go looking around or be attracted to stores and restaurants. Get to your plane's area and wait until it's time to fly.

Getting through airport security can be difficult. Anything with metal will set off the alarm. Some shoes have metal in them and it's advisable to take them off. Don't have money in coin on you going through the detector. Take your belt off your pants; until, you get through the detector. You can put all your stuff in bins. These bins go through x-ray machines and so does your carry on luggage. Watch as others go through the detector; so, you know what to expect. If you don't pass through the detector, you may have to go through a special search which is not fun. Your carry on luggage is subject to be opened if security needs to see it.

Get to your plane's waiting area. Listen to all the announcements about your plane. Wear a watch and be ready to board a half hour before your flight time.

Use a restroom in the airport just before you go on the airplane. It's difficult to use the airplane's toilet. I would try to stay seated for the whole trip. The plane is flying and you can have turns and turbelence and you don't want to try and walk down the aisle while this is going on. You will be offered a drink on most flights. You need to use a seat belt in your seat for liftoff and landing and sometimes if there's bad turbelence you will be asked to wear your seat belt. You cannot walk anywhere on the plane when the plane is in seat belt mode.

Be prepared for a lot of walking. Some people go over 10 miles a day in a park. The Disney parks are huge. There are park maps to follow (get them near the entrances to the parks) and there are Cast Members (CM for short) with badges and Disney uniforms on if you need to ask for directions and such. Look up for signs to show you how to exit the park. Look at the entrance very carefully; because, this is your exit, too.

Ask another question and maybe we can do this a question at a time.

Also remember to keep any meds you may need on your person or in a backpack that you can carry on the plane. You don't want to risk something happening to them. Also when you check in for your flight tell the person at the counter that you do have a special need in case something should happen. The more informed the flight people are the better for you I belive.

Also is there anyone at the group home that could help you plan this trip. That is their job to help you in case's like this to gain independence. Esp if you transitioning to your own apt.

I also wonder if a gift card to disney would work out better for you as you wouldn't have alot of cash to carry around and you would have a set amount you could spend.

Also don't know where you live but is there a smaller local amusment park that you could get to for a dry run so that you could see for yourself what problems come up so that you could work on those before you get to disney.

I wish you luck and wish you a great time.

Are you taking Disney's Magical Express from the airport? If you use this, Disney will get your bags from checked baggage and take it to your hotel for you. They will take you on a bus from the airport right to your hotel. I would suggest this, because it is free and you will not need to worry about taxis and stuff. I did this last time and it was very easy!

When the airplane reservation is made, make sure it is noted that you need assistance to the airplane. Sometimes the plane is a long way from where the luggage drop off is, and if you have knee and leg problems, it may be too long of a walk.

Then when you arrive at your destination, there will be someone there for you too, to help you get the Magical Express or your taxi, depending on which you use.

My family needs this and uses it since we have some mobility issues too.
