Hi!

We just had our baby boy baptized last weekend, and many of our family members sent us money for him. I've been reading some articles on thank-you card etiquette, and it's been saying not to mention money in the card. What would you guys write for a gift of money given to your child?

You should say something like "thank you for your generous gift." You can then go on to mention that it is going toward the baby's college fund or something like that.

I always aknowledge the amount of cash or checks--oops. I have recieved thank you's that aren't dollar amount specific and it makes me think the person forgot what I had given them.

If it's a gift card, I usually don't mention the $ amount, but do mention the store. I wonder what other replies you'll get here :)

And congratulations on the baptisim!

I would go with thank you for the generous gift. I would never mention the amount/ but if you feel like you have to mention it was money... you could say something like baby boy's savings account is growing leaps and bounds or something like that. I ususally end a thank you with It was so kind of you ( or your family) to think of us.

Oh i would also mention thanks for attending baptism if they did attend and throw in something about what a blessing it is that baby boy has somemany people that love him .... or something about how lucky baby boy is to have that person in his life.

Im a pretty big kiss up with thank yous lol.

We sent out thank yous for both my DDs baptisms written as if they were writing them "Thank you so much for think of me and being a part of my special day. Mommy and Daddy have put your generous gift into my college savings account..."

At least you are writting thank yous, a lot of people just don't lately.
Well this is what I have done in the past.
"thank you for the baptism gift you sent for our baby, it was so kind and thoughtfull of you to think of (name) on him/her special day. "

When I write a thank you for money I generally mention what it will be used for..."thank you for the generous gift. I can just imagine how much Johnny will enjoy the bouncy seat he will soon have. Thank you for helping to make that happen".

Oops - I just sent out DD's thank you cards and I did it the old school way. Thank you so much for the gift of money. Mommy is putting it in my savings account so someday I can use it for college. Hmm, guess I should have checked here first! Luckily the cards only went to two great-grandma's so it shouldn't be a BIG deal...but this is good to know. I like how the pp phrased it.

For my son's baptism, this is what I wrote:

"Dear so and so,

Thank you so much for attending my baptism service and celebration picnic. It was so great to see you again. Also, thank you for the very generous monetary gift. Mommy and Daddy will put it into my mutual fund for when I get bigger. I had so much fun and hope to see you again soon."
