My $.02
First off, I think you have too many character meals. They're fun, yes, and there's an endless supply of food, but they're very expensive.
I would drop 'Ohana or Cape May Cafe. I haven't been to either for breakfast, but I think your older children will be itching to get to the parks in the morning rather than spending a lot of time at breakfast. And breakfast is the easiest meal to do super-cheap.
I would also drop The Plaza. Yes, as a table service it's more reasonably priced than others, but there's nothing particularly special about the place and you might as well save the money you'd spend on a tip and do CS.
The three I would absolutely leave in are:
Boma--I ate here with my family in January. We are a diverse bunch (picky children, pescatarian parents, unadventurous sister and snobby brother-in-law, and me, who will eat anything), and everyone was happy. The food is amazing and even if you don't have a car, it's worth schlepping out to the AKL
to look around and see the animals.
Sci-Fi--Admittedly, not the best food at WDW, but the environment is fabulous and your kids will love it.
Crystal Palace--I would consider doing breakfast here instead of dinner and dropping your other two breakfasts. A great character meal you don't have to leave the park for, characters your young ones will both like.
I am assuming you picked Akershus mainly for your 8-year-old daughter and maybe the 12-year-old? If they have their hearts set on a princess meal, maybe your older daughter, son, and husband can do something cheaper? I can't imagine any of them are that psyched for Norwegian food.

Hi all! So excited about our first ever trip to WDW!
We just made the financial decision not to go with the dining plan for our upcoming trip. Our group is 4 adults (one is only 12!), 2 kids.
I now have to decide which ADRs to drop! We want to choose four out of the eight and try to wing it with CS meals as we are light eaters. Here is our list:
'Ohana - breakfast
Cape May Cafe - breakfast
Tusker House - lunch
Akershus - lunch
Sci-Fi - lunch
Crystal Palace - lunch
Boma - dinner
Plaza Restaurant - dinner
Please can anyone help me? Being our first time I have no idea what to pick!!
Many thanks,
Wendy
