Need help with a tough decision... please!

My $.02

First off, I think you have too many character meals. They're fun, yes, and there's an endless supply of food, but they're very expensive.

I would drop 'Ohana or Cape May Cafe. I haven't been to either for breakfast, but I think your older children will be itching to get to the parks in the morning rather than spending a lot of time at breakfast. And breakfast is the easiest meal to do super-cheap.

I would also drop The Plaza. Yes, as a table service it's more reasonably priced than others, but there's nothing particularly special about the place and you might as well save the money you'd spend on a tip and do CS.

The three I would absolutely leave in are:

Boma--I ate here with my family in January. We are a diverse bunch (picky children, pescatarian parents, unadventurous sister and snobby brother-in-law, and me, who will eat anything), and everyone was happy. The food is amazing and even if you don't have a car, it's worth schlepping out to the AKL
to look around and see the animals.

Sci-Fi--Admittedly, not the best food at WDW, but the environment is fabulous and your kids will love it.

Crystal Palace--I would consider doing breakfast here instead of dinner and dropping your other two breakfasts. A great character meal you don't have to leave the park for, characters your young ones will both like.

I am assuming you picked Akershus mainly for your 8-year-old daughter and maybe the 12-year-old? If they have their hearts set on a princess meal, maybe your older daughter, son, and husband can do something cheaper? I can't imagine any of them are that psyched for Norwegian food.

Hi all! So excited about our first ever trip to WDW!

We just made the financial decision not to go with the dining plan for our upcoming trip. Our group is 4 adults (one is only 12!), 2 kids.

I now have to decide which ADRs to drop! We want to choose four out of the eight and try to wing it with CS meals as we are light eaters. Here is our list:

'Ohana - breakfast
Cape May Cafe - breakfast
Tusker House - lunch
Akershus - lunch
Sci-Fi - lunch
Crystal Palace - lunch
Boma - dinner
Plaza Restaurant - dinner

Please can anyone help me? Being our first time I have no idea what to pick!!

Many thanks,
Wendy

OK, obviously these are just opinions but here goes:

'Ohana - breakfast -- I would never pay for breakfast buffet as I find them too expensive, especially when breakfast is so easy to get cheaply elsewhere.

Cape May Cafe - breakfast -- ditto

Tusker House - lunch -- Nice buffet though a little like Boma....maybe, Boma-lite?

Akershus - lunch -- Never been here but I believe this is supposed to be pretty good if your kids are into princesses.

Sci-Fi - lunch -- Fun place for kids for sure; reasonably priced.

Crystal Palace - lunch --Fun character interactions, reasonably good food. I would definitely do this one or Akershus (if not both)

Boma - dinner -- This would be a must do from this list...very nice place, lots of food choices for the pickier folks & great food for the more adventurous eaters.

Plaza Restaurant - dinner --Never been here but can't say I've heard much about it.

I would say keep Boma, Sci-Fi, Crystal Palace. If you really want a breakfast, pick 'Ohana. Otherwise do either Akershus for the princesses or Tusker House.

I mostly agree here. However, we love both Ohana and Cape May. Worth the money if you want a character meal. I wouldn't do both Tusker House and Boma. Too similar, from what I've heard. (Love Boma, haven't done Tusker House.) Plaza is good for an inexpensive meal. I'd decide how many character meals you want and work from there. CP is good, Askerhaus has princesses, but I've only eaten b'fast there. You can't go wrong with any of them, so pick how many you want and who you want and go from there.

If you are in doubt you can always keep the reservation and decide once you're down there.

An excellent point!
OP- I would hate for you to cancel and then wish you hadn't. It may be wisest to keep what you have and see what fits in best to your schedule once you are down there. You can always cancel the day of and make someone else happy. :goodvibes

'Ohana - breakfast - We love this breakfast it is one of our favorites and a tradition! Stitch is great for older kids too!
Cape May Cafe - breakfastNever been to this one so I would drop this ADR
Tusker House - lunch Since this is like Boma lite like a previous poster said I would drop this one and do Boma
Akershus - lunch This depends on what characters your children like the most if they love princesses do this one if not do Crystal palace if they prefer Pooh
Sci-Fi - lunch This is a fun place for your older kids
Crystal Palace - lunchsee what I said above regarding Akershus lunch
Boma - dinnerI would definitely keep Boma
Plaza Restaurant - dinner You can get sandwhiches from a counter service. I would drop the Plaza

So in summary if my family had to pick only 4 we would:

Keep Ohana, Sci-Fi, Boma and either Cyrstal Palace or Akershus

An excellent point!

This is also a great point too! I like this idea as well.

Crystal Palce we did for breakfast before the park opened and my whole family loved the food and the character interaction. It was great to be in the park as well.

Arkershus was great for princess interaction, loved it, but the food, yuck.

You will have a magical time no matter what you pick. I would keep trying for Chef Mickeys. It is a classic and so much fun. I would take what, if anything within reason, I could get there.

Thank you! The reason we are doing lunch at Tusker House is for the reserved seating for the Nemo show. Is is worth it over others?

We couldn't understand the point of the Nemo show - the movie isn't a musical, so why do it? I didn't think the music was up to the Disney standard, and the puppets were just okay. That said, we really like Tusker House, but it wasn't that exotic. I'd say keep Boma and nix Tusker House.

Honestly, we'll never bother with the Nemo show again.

What wonderful, helpful opinions from all of you!

So here is where I am at now......

'Ohana - breakfast A big 'possibly'!
Cape May Cafe - breakfast maybe
Tusker House - lunch definitely out
Akershus - lunch Also out
Sci-Fi - lunch a definite 'maybe'
Crystal Palace - lunch possibly
Boma - dinner definitely in!
Plaza Restaurant - dinner another maybe

I will keep all the resies just in case, except for Akershus which will charge me for cancelling, lol.

What do you think?? Would also love your opinions on Hoop Dee Doo!

Thanks again for all your help!!

Hi all! I have just advised via email for my co-ordinator to cancel Tusker House Tues 2nd June at 1:05pm, with reserved seating for Nemo, and Akershus on Fri 5th June at 1:35pm, if anyone wants to grab it. Both for a party of six!

My kids loved Ohana's too, it was the highlight of the trip. Keep it. Never done the Plaza, but doesn't sound like anything too out of the ordinary, I also have relatives who have not had good experiences at Sci fi, I think it's hit and miss
