Need Help- Virginia Beach Vacation

Wow, nice to see so many Sandbridge fans! Add me to that list :-)

To the OP- if you want to spend a lot of time at the beach then I would not stay in Williamsburg. The commute between Va Beach and Williamsburg can be a nightmare around the Hampton Roads tunnel area. It would not make for a very relaxing vacation.

Have you considered a cabin in a state park. Virginia has a lot of nice state parks and the the cabins are usually pretty nice. First Landing in Va Beach has cabins. I don't think the park is right on the water, but it should be close. I've never stayed at this park so I can't say from personal experience how nice these are, but it would at least be worth looking into.

Good luck!

:mad:I know. Bush Gardens has fireworks the 3rd and 4th but never been on either day I doubt I want to deal with the crowd.

Whoa!! Great suggestion!! I always forget about the cabins, but that's definitely worth looking into. I used to jog the trails through the park a long time ago. From what I remember, the cabins are closest to the Shore Drive entrance. Right across the street and a couple side streets down, and you're at Chick's Beach. The other entrance to the park is around 80th street, and again, a pretty short walk or ride to the oceanfront.

I live in Virginia Beach. They are right that it is a 45 minute - 1 hour drive to get to Williamsburg, but if your goal is to go to the beach then definitely stay in Virginia Beach. Sandbridge is beautiful (and is where many of us locals go), but can be expensive. If I was visiting, I would look at the Doubletree Hotel at the Pavillion. It is a couple of blocks from the beach so it is a bit cheaper than some of the oceanfront hotels, but it is still very close and should give you a view of the water. We love Ocean Breeze, but Water Country is better (and more expensive). The Virginia Aquarium is nice, and has gone through a renovation over the last year or so. We also like Hunt Club Farm, where there is a petting zoo and pony rides. In Williamsburg, we also like going to the Yankey Candle store, where it snows year-round and kids can visit Santa, even in the summer. There is also good outlet shopping. In Norfolk there is Nauticus, which I have never been to but is supposed to be good. Hope that helps!

I live in Va Beach & thought I would add my 2 cents regarding Busch Gardens & Water Country. I STRONGLY suggest not to go to Busch Gardens on the days they are doing the 4th of July fireworks (3rd & 4th). It is always horribly crowded. They now do fireworks every night all summer (illuminights), they are not as big as the July 4th ones, but good just the same.

Also on the days you plan to go to the parks, leave early. On the weekend we will leave at 8:30 for BG & sail right through the tunnel with no traffic, same with WC. Most times we are done by 1:00pm (we have season passes & go all of the time) & on the way back home the traffic is just lined up for miles for the tunnel going to Williamsburg area. Then, not to mention getting through the gates at the park. I would also try to go during the week.

Oh, there is also the Norfolk Zoo. They just added a new section that is very nice, the Asia Trail.
