My friend Judy's mother, Dolores, recently passed away- we all used to go to Disney together.

I would like to do something nice for Judy as we will be in the parks on Dolores' birthday (and attending the Halloween party that night).

Dolores was a great lady- does anyone have any ideas on how to celebrate her birthday?? Thanks.

This might be expensive, but what about doing one of those engraved things at EPCOT of your friend's mom, then make a "treasure hunt" that would lead to the engraved spot?

Or, you could make reservations for a restaurant she always enjoyed, or bring a picture of her with you, and get lot of pictures with the picture.

Hugs to you and your friend.

I read on another thread about someone who lost their daughter before they got a chance to go to WDW. So when they finally did get to go, they bought a Minnie balloon, took it to the hub in front of the castle, kissed it, and let it go!! (I cried just reading about it) Anyway, I hope that poster doesn't mind me telling the story here.

I just thought it was a great way to celebrate their little angel's life and feel like she was a part of their trip.

Maybe you could do something like that for Dolores. Especially since it is her birthday!

Sending prayers and pixie dust to you and Judy!!! :wizard:

While I think the balloon thing is very sweet, it is actually against the law to knowingly release any type of metalic balloon. They can get wrapped around wires and cause all kinds of problems.

I just found this out recently when I took a course in balloon making. I doubt it is greatly inforced, but just something to consider.

Maybe you could make a list of all the favotie things she liked to do and as you do them think of funny stories that happened on each one of them. Celebrate her life. Maybe you could carry a bottle of water or her favorite soda and make a toast to her at each attraction.

Well, I am the guilty one with the balloon idea. However, there are other means by which to remember someone you love so dearly... I agree that having a tribute placed in Epcot is a good idea. We have one there for our daughter, Marissa. The cost was minimal - I think we paid $25.00. (I wish we could have gotten her a brick - but don't know if it is still possible) You will receive a copy of the memorial by mail, too, which is really nice. You can put this in your photo album or scrap book. The kiosk to the far right, just after you enter, is where you would go to see about this. I love the idea of toasting at each special ride/attraction. I guess the most important thing for me is to celebrate the person's life- in whatever way brings you peace. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I pray you have a beautiful "bacation" filled with more tears of joy than sorrow. (((hugs)))

Going to such a happy place without someone you love is difficult. Our first trip after my son died had us asking questions such as Should we even be here? The answer of course was yes. I really like the idea of toasting Delores' favorite rides. Don't be afraid to share all the silly memories - it'll make you laugh instead of feeling sad. We've gone twice (and are planning another trip for December) and I have taken his picture with me and a Tigger bracelet engraved with his name. They are very subtle but it makes it feel that he is there with us. Even if you don't plan anything big you will be thinking of her throughout your trip - that's the best thing you can do.

I got my late dad a penny at the Norway Pavillion (viking Mickey), and put in on his grave.
