Of course, I know we could have ordered on on-line months ago, but we weren't sure we were going anyplace to use one and we waited too late to get one. We ordered one from Sears and it was supposed to be two day shipping. Dh called and they hadn't even processed the order yet. So no metal detector from Sears.:sad1:

Can anyone think of a store that would have them locally? I've tried Walmart, Kmart, Target, Radio Shack and Dick's Sporting Goods. Any other ideas for stores that might have one? I had my heart set on using it this weekend at the beach and now we don't have one.:sad2:

Do you have a Cabela's near you, or near where you are going to?

DH "had" to have one last summer, luckily we have a Cabela's less than 5 miles away.

My DH just bought one last week at Dicks. Might check there again. Other than that Cabelas or Gander Mountain?

Is this for an adult or child? If it's a child, try toys r us. They have the toy ones, still work, just not heavy duty. If you only need it for a few days, try a rental place.

Dick's Sporting Goods here have them. You might want to check with them again. REI might have some too.

After watching the Today show this morning - I'd say hit up your local Goodwill store! They had a story about an unemployed guy in England who paid $6 for a used metal detector at a second hand store, then found probably the most valuable cache of Anglo-Saxon treasure ever. Millions of dollars of 1300 year old gold and silver buried in a field. How cool is that!:goodvibes

I heard this story on the radio just as my husband was on his way to a Dick's Sporting Goods in another town to pick up the last metal detector they had. I thought he might not get it after all if people here this story, lol! But he did! I always thought the store in the mall was the only one in the area, but there was another store only a few minutes north of there. Yeah! Think we'll find a treasure chest? I'll be happy with some loose change or a ring or something.

Bought one for my dd12 a couple x-mas's ago from Target. It was in the "educational" toy section.
