We are flying in on a Friday night in May. Arriving at MCO at 8pm. It's too late for Randy's to deliver my moms scooter to the resort so they're coming the next morning. My mom loves them we use them all the time. My question is. We are staying at carribean beach resort. If we wanted to go to DTD that night would the resort have a wheelchair we could use for my mom just for a few hours ? It would be too much for her to walk. Even if we went to DTD. Having to get a chair from there. Would be a pain in the butt just for a short amount of time. I was just wondering. If not we will stay at the resort for the night. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi!

We've used another scooter company (Care) in the past, and they would leave the scooter at Bell Services to await our arrival. Can your scooter company do that? It would save you worrying about borrowing a wheelchair for your first night.

Good luck and have a great trip!

1) Randy's is not on the Approved Vendor List for ECV's.
2) Therefore, they cannot leave the scooter unattended at Bell Services.
3) They must meet you and deliver it to you in-person.
. . . we do n ot know their hours of delivery
. . . you should call them and inquire
4) Scooters on The List can leave them during the day.
5) Then, you pick up the scooter from Bell Services, Front Desk or Concierge.
6) Approved Vendors sign a 2-year contract,
. . . Apple Scooter
. . . Buena Vista
. . . Best Price Mobility
. . . Care Medical
. . . Scooterbug

NOTE: Not being on The List does not mean they are bad vendors. It is just
that they will not agree to WDW's terms and may not meet WDW's requirements.

In general, the wheelchairs at the resorts are only meant for situations at the resort and are not meant to be taken from the resort. They are also usually older and not in as good of shape.

bolding is mine...
What does this mean? situations at the resort?? what kind of situations?

Not true...when you borrow it, you are allowed to take it elsewhere on Disney property but you are responsible for it!! :)

It does appear I was incorrect about taking them with you. For that I apologize.

As for the bolded... from the FAQ itself (bolding mine):

At WDW resorts
The WDW resorts have a limited number of manual (push) wheelchairs available to loan to guests. They are first come, first served and can't be reserved ahead of time.
Meant for people who develop a need while at WDW (injury or illness), not for people who know ahead of time they will need one.

Some DIS posters have had good experience with borrowing from the resorts. Others have found that what was available was either not in good condition or not what they needed (ie, extra wide when they needed regular or vice versa). People have posted that it took anywhere from several minutes to several days to get a more appropriate wheelchair.
Here is what the WDW website's Guest Services page about wheelchair and ECV rental has to say about getting wheelchairs from the resorts:

Wheelchairs are available in limited numbers for Walt Disney World® Resort Guests at each Resort. Contact Guest Services or the Front Desk for assistance. A $315 deposit will be held on the Guest room account charged only if the wheelchair is not returned. Guests wishing to guarantee the use of a wheelchair throughout their stay should contact local area rental companies to make arrangements.

At two and a half years of age, he could qualify for Make a Wish. Our prayers are with you. My daughter was also a micro premie with many disabilities.

Clearly, they posted on the wrong thread. It happens-especially when someone is new to the DIS.

I didn't know if they knew the OP personally and were asking about something we didn't know or if I'd just misread the OP. Sorry for asking a clarifying question.

So that is your opinion... it doesn't state Meant for people who develop a need while at WDW (injury or illness), not for people who know ahead of time they will need one anywhere on the Disney website.
It states "Guests wishing to GUARANTEE the use of a wheelchair throughout their stay should contact local area rental companies to make arrangements." Maybe because they are limited in number and are first come, first served? So you may get one, but maybe not.... If you want to be 100% positive rent offsite. But to say that they were meant for people 'who have an issue after arriving' is clearly an opinion. ;)

Actually it is NOT my opinion as I did not write the FAQ. It is information that Sue has gotten on multiple trips to Disney and speaking to Disney staff. So, honestly, if you have a problem with the FAQ, you need to speak to her.

However, Sue has done a LOT of work for this forum and I have yet to come across anything that has been incorrect in my years here. I spend quite a bit of time on this board because I can help with ADA design issues.

Hey thanks everyone for the post replies.

We will stick with Randy's. Thanks for letting me know about the other companies. I remember seeing at pop a bunch of scooters lined up I figured they were being held for guests or from guests who returned them. I know Randy's hours. 8 to 5pm every day.

I think we will skip DTD and hang out at the resort. It will be at least 9:30- 10 once we get settled.

I know you guys could answer my question :)

We can probably have someone give my mom a ride to the room on one of the golf carts. (Hopefully.)

My poor mom I feel bad. She says she wishes she could walk. She's in a lot or pain. Thank god for electric scooters !

Thanks again

Chris
