Need Help Deciding - Monorail or Bus Resort

For us, for the price, monorails just don't make sense. We like the busses, they are great, part of the fun, we love the music they play on the way back to the resort, and for all the complaining you will see our experiences have been 95% awesome with the buses, and there have been some problems with the monorail as well :)

But really, for the price savings staying at a moderate or non-Monorail resort, we can basically pay for 2 vacations, or stay twice as long, and that I will take any day.

30 years ago my husband took us to WDW. This was back there was only the MK and Future WOrld, and the Gand was just starting construction. (It had been a dream of mine to stay there after seeing it being built), and he insisted on the Contemporary. WE wee there on NYE, and after teh FIreworks we herded our exhausted family back to teh monorail, and hopped on. It was one of the best reassurances of money well spent as far as he ws concened.

SO here we are 30 years later, and he is still saying that if it is not on the monorail, it is not Disney! Now I cannot say I agree with his philosophy, and have no problem staying at a less expensive category of resort, but I do agree that is it is in the budget, that monorail location is hard to beat!

We have stayed on the monorail, but usually stay on site at other non-monorail resorts. If you are planning to spend a lot of time at the MK and it fits your budget, the monorail hotels are great. If you will be splitting your time equally between the parks, I prefer an Epcot hotel (Boardwalk, BC, YC) because you can walk to two resorts or take a boat. We usually walk because we have 2 young children. It is nice not to take them out of the stroller at the end of the night. We just got back from a trip where we stayed at Art of Animation in a family suite. I have to say the buses were the best they have ever been on any trip. We waited no more than 10 min. for any bus.

You can rent DVC points and save a bunch on that monorail resort! We're doing it at BWV and saving about 1/2 off or rack rates. :D

The monorail resorts are nice, but I would not book solely because of the monorail. The monorail has issues and when it works, it's great, but when it doesn't, it is quite the cluster.
You should just be prepared to make adjustments if needed if it goes down.
Amen on that. When the monorail is up and working it's great, but when it goes down,,,,it really is a PITA
