I haven't purchased travel insurance & now I am getting into a panic. Since I haven't made my final payment, can I still go thru DU & DCL to get my insurance or do I have to buy outside of them? Also does anyone know if certain credit cards offer trip insurance, such as AMEX or Discovery. I don't want to have something unforseen happen & I don't have trip insurance, also what do they consider a pre-existing condition? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am usually pretty good about this stuff but am finding I'm having a real mental breakdown about this! Thanks again! Kathy

I won't be much of a help to you -- you'd have to read the policies to see what pre-existing would mean, I guess.

I have some kind of American Express travel insurance, the trip has to be paid with the AmEx card in order to qualify. you can call AmEx and ask them. There are many other travel insurance companies -- for our cruise I used Travel Guard. www.travelguard.com.

You should be able to add the DCL insurance when you call to make your final payment. However........ you can probably get it cheaper through another company. You might check out www.travelguard.com or www.accessamerica.com

I think pre-existing condition is defined as any medical condition that has been diagnosed/treated prior to purchase of the insurance policy. Personally, I purchase travel insurance primarily for the medical evacuation coverage. If you need to be flown back to the U.S. it can easily run you $20,000 or more.

i tend to over-insure...
so i bought the DCL insurance for our cruise, but i also bought separate medical travel insurance for our whole trip....and yes, i also buy the kind that includes medivac (flying us back home on a special airplane with a medical staff, even if the problem can be treated in the US...if i'm that sick i don't want to be in the US, i want to be back home....and i can't afford the $25,000 or whatever it will take to get me there)...

You can only add DCL travel insurance BEFORE you make your final payment. And, of course, it's going to cost you because you waited until final payment.

However, you can purchase through other travel insurance companies and they will probably be cheaper. Also, if you purchased your air separately from DCL, then their insurance WILL NOT cover your air part of the trip. If you purchase outside of DCL, you can insure everything.

And yes, be sure to get medical that include air evacuation. I have heard some real horror stories about that. Even just a broken ankle could really cost you if they have to air lift you out of the area.

Go to insuremytrip.com. They offer all the travel insurances and pricing from the companies previously mentioned. You can choose your coverage and price range. I believe they all offer reimbursement for trip cancellation and medical. I have used them on our last 4 cruises, and purchased the insurance at various times, but always before the final payment is made. Good luck.

Why not check with the agency/company that carries your home-owners insurance. I wish I had done that ... probably would have been less expensive.

If you have a trust worthy agent, I'm sure he/she would not do you wrong.

WE went with Disney insurance this time.....we ususally go with CSA but we are taking my grandmother this time and since she has pre-existing medical conditions, it was cheaper to go with Disney. The others were OUTRAGIOUS!!

If you and your party are healthy, then disney is a more expensive option. I would say check around then ;)

Have a nice cruise!

We found a good coverage and great price with Travel guard. Even for our daughter who has pre existing health problems....the total for the four of us was less than two would have been with the Disney insurance.:D We did however do ours right when we our trip was booked. I think the longer you wait the more it cost...but I could be wrong.

I know for sure that Access America will only cover pre-existing conditions if you buy the insurance within a week or two of your deposit...so that is out for you since you are closer to making final payment.
