Thanks everyone for the advice and pictures. Keep 'em coming if you have any others!

I think we will do the taco bar. What would you add for a side dish? I just don't want to have tacos and cake.

Just keep "SIMPLE" in mind!! Tacos and cake don't sound like much ~ but many people have to party hop and not everyone eats. If you were going to have tacos for dinner tonight would you need a side dish to go with them!!? You could put out some munchies like veggies and dip, fruit, cheese and crackers or chips. You are going to want to enjoy the day too ~ so keep it SIMPLE!!!

Rice, beans, chips and salsa. Not to mention taco toppings which I think you already mentioned.

I made a very large fruit salad to go with our Qdoba bar
We did our party jointly with DS's BFF's family, she made a large green salad.

We too did a picture cake - we had a "buddy" picture the boys did in baseball when they were in 4th grade, we put that in the middle and then they both had cap & gown Kindergarten pictures that we added along with their Sr. cap & gown pictures. We referred to the boys as the "Bickersons" throughout their childhood (Bicker and Son depending on whose house they were at) so we wrote Congrats to the Bickersons, job well done! on their cake.
It was soooooo hard to cut that cake.

I still have 3 1/2 years until my daughter graduates from high school but I LOVE the cake thats posted. Thanks!!!

We are also planning a graduation party for DD in June -this is what we have planned so far ( DD has picked everything out so far)
our house is small, and the party is going to be an "open house" type- (we could expect over 150 people) so we are going to hold it at a city park, it has a enclosed shelter, a softball diamond, B-ball court, volleyball court - ( this is a family thing, when we have big summer parties, we get teams together and have fun playing)
the shelter is an added bonus if it's raining/ too hot/too cold. ( it even has a fireplace if it's really cold:laughing:)
For the cake, DD has an advantage - I am a cake decorator, and she picked out this cake -
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3349/3592258518_3b0236d6b6.jpg with her school colors or red, white & black. Around her cake she wants cupcakes decorated w/ roses & mini motor boards like this- http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3326/3604971688_ae3e7ca861.jpg
and homemade bars, mini cheesecakes, etc. - kind of like a dessert buffet.
For the food-( I cheated and it's being catered from our favorite Mexican grocery :rolleyes1) we are doing a Mexican fiesta buffet, chicken & beef fajitas w/ yellow rice, refired beans, pico, etc.
we are also going to have a few subs from walmart for guests who do not like the spicey food. With chips, & dip, etc.
decor is just simple balloon bouqets on the tables, and she wants a power point running the background with photos from when she was little until no - like a photo montage :thumbsup2.

ETA: if you need balloons, i found a great wholesaler that sells deflated mylar balloons for a really awesome price, and quick shipping-let me know and i will post a link.

I also found a great site for graduation tableware - let me know if anyone wants that website also :thumbsup2

How about some disposable cameras at all the tables for them to take pictures of each other. You can compile all of the pictures into an album afterwards or post to facebook or another on-line sharing site.

Hi:flower3:

Bumping this thread up since I am in the process of look for ideas for my oldest son's graduation. We are holding it in our church's hall and have about 200 guests at this point :scared1: DH and I have a large family.

The typical graduations in our neighborhood consist of families coming for the first 2 hours, then the graduation student's friends coming the 2 hours after that.

I am off for spring break this week ... so this is my "job" for the week.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Check your local rental places for bounce houses, jumbo slip n' slides, water slides etc. Some may also rent out cotton candy machines, slushie or shaved ice makers, popcorn machines - those are always fun!

Candy buffets are cute.
For food (although doesn't really go with "pink and zebra") - a picnic/bbq menu? Burgers and dogs on the grill, along with some shredded bbq chicken or pork (maybe a little sandwich station with buns, lettuce, condiments) chili, potato salad, pasta salads, regular greens salads, chips and dips, corn bread, ribs, corn on the cob etc.

I don't think decorations matter as much .. if she is sticking with her theme, do plenty of balloons around the front of your house/porch, in the back yard (or wherever you're holding this) matching tablecloths, maybe some pictures of her in preschool, kinder, etc and a senior picture in a cute little frame?
