We are leaving for the Fort Tuesday night and now we have a problem with our RV! It has been in the shop for the past two weeks getting a new motor for one of the slides and also getting an oil change and the generator serviced. As luck would have it, I had to work late today and so we got to the service department just as they were closing. We paid and then left without checking to see if everything was okay. Well, wouldn't you know, when my husband tried to start the generator when we got home, there is a fault light and it won't start. Does anyone know what might be causing this and what we can do to fix it? Help!!!

Not a generator expert here so I don't know.

What I'm wondering though, is why do you need a generator at the Fort?:confused3

We need it for the ride down. We will be stopping at rest area on the way down and will probably need to run the AC.

Is it going to be that hot? We have had a fault light before on ours and it turned out to be the fuel hose. However, we have a diesel generator. I did not see you mention if you had a gas or diesel.

LOL! I know it sounds crazy to be concerned about the heat, but when you're my age, menopause plays havoc with your body's internal thermometer!

Ours is a diesel generator too. My husband just left the house to head over to the RV shop this morning. We both remembered seeing a sign in the window saying that they are now open for a few hours on Saturday. We just aren't sure if it is the retail area that is open or the service department. I think the thing that bugs me the most about this is that one of the things they were supposed to do is service the generator. So they either didn't service it at all (but charged us for it) or they never checked to make sure that everything was working properly after they serviced it.

Let us know how it goes. Another place you might want to try is if there is a marine diesel place around. I actually have my RV serviced by the marine industry here. They know more about the engine and generator than most regular mechanics in our area. They tend to work weekends more as well, just a thought for ya..;)

If you don't have any luck at the dealer, the fault light should be flashing a number (2 flashes, 3 flashes, etc) count those and the if necessary go on line and you should be able to pull up the user's manual expescially if it's an ONAN.

Well, the RV is back in the shop again! They said it is a relay switch (or something called a cylinoid???). One of the technicians told my husband that they've had a ton of RVs coming in over the last few days because people are going out of town for Spring Break. I asked my husband if he reminded him that ours has been there for over two weeks and they still don't have it fixed! Of course, he didn't say anything to the guy because he is just too nice. I hope it's ready by Tuesday.

These are the times when I wish we had bought a brand new RV and not a used one. :(

We bought a brand new luxery motor coach and the generator wouldn't start after only a few weeks. So new is not better. Turned out it was only a loose wire and has been fine since.

That makes me feel a little bit better. I'm just getting really frustrated with all of this.
