We had a long talk last night and John is finding good homes for 2 of our outside dogs. With spring coming and Parvo being a big threat down South it is just best to try and find them an indoor home. We could keep them and give them the shots but that would be very expensive. Bascically it would be better for them to have indoor homes. They are both full blooded and young so finding them a home should be no problem.

Now the third puppy, our Cocker Spaniel we would like to try to keep. She is not yet 2 years old but has never been housebroken. She has been outside so is used to doing her business where she pleases. When we moved into the house we put in a doggie door and all 3 of them sleep in the Laundry Room. They have never once used the bathroom in here but we also haven't given them access to the rest of the house.

With lady no longer being a puppy what would you all suggest trying in the process of getting her housebroken? I would like for her to eventually have the run of the house but I have never house trained a dog before and have no idea where to start.

My mothers two dogs use the "Pee Pads" and go outside when she gets home. They are kept in her apartment part of the house though. BUt they have actually gotten to where they will use the pads only once per day and thats usually at night so they have done well.

I've been long winded, can anyone give me any suggestions?

Set her up on a schedule. When she starts to go in the house, pick her up put her outside and tell her to go potty, you may have to stay outside with her initially. When she does go potty outside lavish praise on her. If she is going to be home alone during the day, I would crate her. Dogs generally will not go where they "live". Ours go out first thing in the morning when DH gets up. They then go out when I get up and after dinner and right before bedtime. With me being home during the day they are in and out more often. However, when I was working they were on schedule. It will take time and persistence to get her housebroken.

I will be home with her all day so she can definatly go out whenever she needs.

A little bit of me is afraid that she will miss the other two but she has always been jealous of them so I'm hoping she will be okay. I do love them all but she is my heart!
