Im in need of advice and figured who better than to ask the ladies of Dis. Ok here it im about to buy a .75 carat diamond that is internally flawless, d color, and ideal cut. Now this woman at my job feels that its to small and she would prefer something larger with more flaws. Does size really matter? lol Would you prefer a perfect stone or a bigger flawed one????

My opinion, I would go with the flawless stone. I have a carat that is flawless and it sparkles so much , my friend's isn't as flawless and she is always saying things like how nice my stone is and her's doesn't sparkle as much as mine.
I also had it cleaned at a jewelry store and they raved about how beautiful the stone was.
I would rather have quality than quanity.
Good Luck.

I don't know what planet your co-worker is from, but 3/4 carat is a pretty big stone in my book ! Personally, I would love that diamond, as color is very important to me. I would even sacrifice a few minor flaws for a D color. Although, it does depend on your future DB. I have a coworker that wanted a "big stone" and didn't care that you could very easily see two huge carbon spots with the naked eye. I thought it looked cheap. I know everyone has different opinions, but that is mine ! :rolleyes1

It's very hard to see the difference between a 3/4 carat and 1 carat, IMO. However it's not hard to see the difference between a very high quality and low quality. My diamond has very little in the way of flaws and I am always getting compliments on how beautiful it is.

The only reason I could see for buying the bigger stone is if she has larger hands that would make the 3/4 carat seem small. Also, I just found out that the cost difference between a 1-carat and a .9something-carat stone is huge, so you could go that route if you really thought she wanted a bigger stone. ;)

definitely go with the better stone! the QUALITY is incredibly important to most of us. there are a few who will take the larger, and of course, only you know what your gf will like, but I say go with the better stone...

Quality over quantity hands down! My stone is .5 carat and is virtually flawless. It is much nicer than many of my friends stone who wanted larger diamonds. By going larger you tend to sacrifice the quality, unless you are willing to spend a ton for the stone to be perfect.

I agree. Go with quality. I have a GREAT diamond. It sparkles so much and I love it.

I agree with all the ladies above. I have a 3/4 nearly flawless. It's the perfect size, not too big not too small, and it sparkles like crazy. That's actually how I got my screen name! A diamond that sparkles will impress over size anyday!

I had the opportunity to buy a 1 carat diamond this past sunday but instead I went with a 1/2 carat that was the same price.....why? Because the stone I got is an E in color and has no real inclusions. E is the next down from D and let me tell you this stone sparkles like the sun! I wouldn't change it, even if I could have had a bigger one.:cloud9: Quality matters and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

Pomlover, does that mean you got your ring? Weren't you the one asking about whether you should be there in person or not? If that was you, congrats on finding one!

Agreed! .75 carat is big in my books, and I'd much rather have a quality diamond than size for size's sake.

Hi Purplegirl! Yes I was the one asking if I should be there! We were originally just going to look at various styles/sizes but after 3 hrs of looking and finding this stone we both knew it was "the one" It's perfect and the price was so good we couldn't refuse! We had them set it and size it and took it home the same day! :cloud9: Now it's in it's box hidden away until he proposes and i'm going crazy because I want to wear it! LOL

Definitely Quality! And it sounds to me that you have a "Perfect" stone! Don't go messing that up! To have all those attributes together in one stone is SO rare! So, be excited that you have such a wonderful stone and when those "other" people see it, they will WISH they could have it! Congrats on finding such a great stone! :thumbsup2
