Trying to find a Disney princess (any type probably) in size 10/12 area. (It could be bigger). My dd wanted a princess costume down there but prices - ACK! We checked outlet store there and St Augustine but no luck. (Of course 2 years ago they had tons!). I have paged thru ebays costumes and am having no luck in her size. Even the patterns appear to mostly run 3 to 8's. (And our only close Disney store closed!)

My luck gets worse- we are going to Madison to get my son from college THIS weekend and so the coupons on ebay for $10 off any costume will not be useable then either!

What suggestions do you folks have for help in this 'budget' request? Any other cheap sources besides ebay?

Thanks for listening to me whine......................

Have you checked www.DisneyStore.com for the Princess Night gowns?? They come larger the dress and less expensive. I was lucky Dd hates anything ichy. And the Night gown was soft but still very Cinderella-y and then you could dress it up,with a crown, and slippers.

I found size 10/12, Belle and Cinderella nightgowns and slippers at this link

Always check resale stores/thrift stores/consignment stores as well.

I am starting to see costumes there.

Is there a theater costumer in your area? or a local playhouse?

They may have some older costumes which they may have for purchase.

The theater costumer may not be a true Disney, but that's an option as well.

This may not interest you, but we are creating our own "Disney" character costume. It has been fun for my DD and me to come up with ideas to accesorize, etc... We have even made up our own story about her character.

It all started when my Tinker-Belle loving daughter got some clearance pink plastic dress up shoes($1.00 at Kohl's). We decided she had to use them for Halloween so she could be "Pinker-Belle" , Tinker-Belle's older (or younger, I forget) sister. She is wearing a pink leotard and ballerina skirt
($8.00 total at Wal-mart) and her favorite tiara. Anything pink will do. Of course, this is just what we came up with. You could do any variation of Disney Princess. All it takes is a little imagination, cooperation of the DD, and some luck with the sales.

My daughter really enjoyed the process.

The biggest problem we have with the princess costumes is the WEATHER around here. It's simply too cold to wear those dresses out at night unless you cover the darned things up with a coat (then why bother with the beautiful dress in the first place!) or look like a stuffed sausage with long underwear on underneath!!!

I'd try to convince her to be Pooh bear or Eeoyre or something...that way you can make a really great (and inexpensive!) costume from appropriately colored sweat pants and hooded sweatshirt!

Good luck!!!!

We must be lucky. Our neighborhood assc. always hosts an indoor party at the local elementry school. If you are going you donate 2 bags of wrapped candy and get a notice stating you donated to the party, thus releaving you of passing out candy at the door at your house. They bag it into brown paper lunch bags which the kids get when leaving the party. There is food and drinks. And many school carnival games, cake walk for a 3 pack of Hostess cupcakes, ring toss for a snapple drink, a mild Haunted House, bowling for small plastic toys, spiders, witches finger, skelaton, spider ringsand fake tatoo's. And a costume contest. And a door prize gift give away. The kids love it,the Parents love it!!

Sounds great, Tink. I'm envious! I wish people around here would be into that. Several organizations have tried in the past to host parties, but they don't seem to go over too well. I guess we're stuck with the door-to-door thing for a while longer....

If you sew or know someone who does, Dis patterns are available through McCall's I think. I have made my niece costumes in the past and she has worn both her Cinderella and Snow White costumes when we vacationed at WDW. Even had her picture taken with Cinderella at the Castle at dinner. It was so cute because as the people who were standing in front of us stepped away and my niece stepped toward Her Majesty, Cinderella put her hand to her cheek and gasped slightly; my niece was a pretty good imitation.

thank you for the links - we are in the 'problem' area too up here. Weather can be 72 on Halloween or -20. You never can prepare.

I will show her the pj's though and see what she thinks.

I tried to pick up a pattern on ebay, but they were all sizes 3 to8. Do they even make the Disney patterns in larger sizes?

Our town is around 3500 people - county is mostly rural so we are out of luck on consignment, etc.

The Disney patterns are offered by Simplicity and run only in 3-8. You might want to take her measurements and compare to the pattern, though. It could run big or be easy to adjust to fit her, especially if you just needed a little more length. Any fabric store should carry these patterns, and I've seen them at WalMart.

I've also ordered patterns on-line. I'm almost certain they were Simplicity (might have been McCalls, but I don't think so....) Good luck!

The last two weeks there have been a bunch of costumes at our local Costco. They had several different costumes just like the true Disney princess ones. Don't know if you have a store in your area.

Party City had a few princess ones in a clearance bin, some were $5, some werer $15, and some were $20.

They had Disney on the bag, so it wasn't a knockoff.

Just wanted to say that size 10/12 is the biggest size that children's Disney costumes come in. I had to buy my size 14/16 DD an adult small Belle costume (very expensive!) She is only 11 years old and still loves the princesses, but is no longer able to wear the cute clothes from the Disney store. I wish they made them in bigger sizes!

http://www.buycostumes.com/ has a lot of costumes. They have Disney Princess costumes there too. You can save 5% on your order by using the coupon code: earlybird (good until 9/30/02). Or, you can try coupon code: buys

Well, don't know if this is what you are seeking, but TDS has size 10-12 costumes for less than the parks, $34.50, and if you have ordered Monsters, Inc, you should have received a $10 off a costume coupon that you can use starting tomorrow. That might make it more affordable for you.

Since halloween is cold more often than not I would suggest making a cape out of a warmer fabric and adding fur trim for style. You could then add a tiara, dress shoes, etc. and still have a warm DD. A cape is very easy to make. After all Belle wore one.

My 3 daughters and I were at the Disney Store 2 weeks ago looking at costumes. I ended up purchasing the Jasmine costume for my 8-year-old, but the largest shoe they carried(child's 12-1)was too small, so I am not sure what I will do for shoes now. I was hoping she could wear the costume to the Storybook Breakfast at Epcot, but there is nothing available for the 4 days we will be there. Believe it or not, my oldest DD(14), who is embarrassed by my love of all things Disney, fell in love with a red terry-cloth/lace(?) Belle dress at the Disney Store, and they did carry a large(size 12). It is not available online, and the CM I spoke to said there was no way to know when/how many more they will get in. With a land/sea vacation planned for early Oct., I could not justify paying $85 for that dress, but I sure have been thinking about it since she first saw it. I hate to intrude on someone else's post, but this seemed to be the most appropriate place to ask the question: does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives to this dress? I found out the dress was only available in stores after searching for a picture of it online(to take to a seamstress). This is the first time I have seen so many Belle costumes(probably to promote the DVD release) at Halloween, but none seem to be a bargain. Thanks!
