Awww! Those are so cute!!!
Reducing friction and keeping feet dry are key to keeping feet blister-free. Moisture actually increases friction! My feet are prone to blisters, even with athletic shoes and especially on my toes (where the skin squishes). The last two trips were blister-free because I took advice from a running board.
Tip #1: feet swell throughout the day, so make sure your shoes have ample room for foot expansion. Also try buying athletic shoes when your feet are at their worst, puffy selves. Your toes should be able to expand and stretch freely in athletic shoes and it's nice to have about a thumbs-width space between your toes and the tip of your shoe. My dress shoes are size 8.5, but my athletic walking shoes are 9.5. This sounds big but it still fits at my ankles and the foot-length (it's secure and not flopping around), while my toes are free to wiggle.
Tip #2: buy shoes that offer ventilation. If your feet sweat throughout the day, sealing them up with leather isn't gonna help. I like vented nylon more than solid fabrics.
Tip #3: good socks help! JMO, but all-cotton socks are poor at wicking away sweat. I found that thin-synthetic running socks or wool socks kept my feet drier and cooler.
Tip #4: break your shoes in before you go.
Tip #5: FOOT POWDER. I love Bond's Gold Powder and I load up my socks and shoes before I go out each morning. Also, pre-powder socks and keep them on-hand for a mid-day change.
Tip #6: to space toes, try weaving loose lambs wool between toes (just a little bit). You can stretch it thin, so it'll easily fit between toes. Remember, wool wicks away moisture and the thin layer prevents rubbing. This is a dancer's technique. You can buy this at most drugstores or even Target, in the foot care section.
