I will be staying at AKL on Feb 4-6. Never having stayed there I need some expert help. What are some of the things that I should not miss?

Ask the desk for night goggles. You will be able to see the animals at night.

WAY COOL! :D :D I didn't know AKL had night goggles. What a great idea!! Are there a lot of animals out at night?? That would make the Savannah view even better since most people are only in their rooms at night!

The storytelling around the fire pit at night, and a nice dinner at Jikos... Sitting in the observation tower in a rocking chair, and just taking it all in...

Take a stroll through the halls in the evening before turning in. There's African artwork here and there plus some windows overlooking different parts of the savannah. I saw many animals bedding down in different areas.

There's also storytelling for the kids at a specific time in the evening and animal viewing at night with a CM from one of the observation decks. Check the hidden mickey's website unless you have the hidden mickey's book. DS and I spent some time searching for some at AKL.

And there's also a nice bar if you go for that kind of thing. :)

We enjoyed walking out on the rock and talking to the CMs who work there. They know facts about the animals and many are from Africa. The whole resort is just so beautiful. Spent some time sitting in the lobby and simply looking at the art work. Take the stairs down to Boma and Jiko and see the waterfall. Fill up your mug at Mara and spend some time at the pool. Browse the best gift shop at any resort.

have fun!

The animal experts are out at the rock viewing area every night from 8 to 11 with the night vision goggles. We were there earlier in the week and it was very interesting.

We also enjoyed an interperter they had in the lounge at the sunset overlook off the lobby talking about some of the animals from a perspective of someone who had seen them in the wild in Africa.

The culinary tour...4:30'ish daily. Check the activity board for time and meeting place.

Is the culinary tour something for everyone or the special presentations they do in the concierge lounge. We happened back to the lounge one day when a chef was essentially hosting a "cooking show" where he demonstrated a recipe (and then gave out samples).

For everyone. And it's free and you get to sample some of the food from Boma and Jiko!

Two things: dinner at Jiko, and provided you have a "Savannah View" room, room service breakfast on your balcony. :D
