I am planning on booking Dec 19, 2004 4 day cruise Category 10. This is our first cruise. All the deck 5 rooms are taken. There are only 2 rooms left on 7. Would you take one of these rooms or move down to deck 2? Are the adjoining rooms noisy? Or should I think about a different category? I would prefer Category 9,10, or 11. The travel agent said the Category 10s on deck 7 might have too much motion. We have kids and want to be convenient to things. Thanks for any advice. I just want to know if I should jump on those last two rooms before they are gone.

We love deck 2 and prefer it to deck 7! We have had a cat 10 on deck 2 three times and two more cruises this month on deck 2!!!

Never seemed noisy to us and we love the access to the dining rooms, adult clubs and atrium! Also the elevators aft and forward always seem less busy than the mid! We enjoy deck 2!

JMHO! I would not stress about deck 2! And we have had an adjoining room and it was not noisy to us! I say go for it!!!!!!

I liked deck 2, but deck 7 would be very convenient too. I think you can't go wrong with either....but if it were my choice, I would pick 7. The Magic is so large that unless the seas are VERY rough, you will not even know you are on the ocean, so I wouldn't worry about motion on either deck.

Hi!
I mentioned that I liked Deck 7 (in the PM I sent you), but I should have said that I never tried Deck 2. I guess it just didn't 'look' good to me, but so many others have said they like it, and we might just give it a try in the future. I loved the SPH room, but you have to book it so far in advance. I liked the split bath, so we may be giving deck 2 a try in the future. Right now, we have a SPH room booked for both of our 2004 cruises.

Which ever one appeals to you I am sure will be fine. To be honest, any room is fine with us as long as we are on the ship. It is the MOST Magical vacation we ever experienced (which is why are have gone 4 times, and already have #5 and #6 booked).

The ONLY problem with deck to is other peoples perception!! When we have stayed on deck 2 and told other people where we were staying the usual response was "Oh Down There".

Lots of advantages to being "down there".
Disembarking on Port Days: you go forward or aft - where ever they tell you to go and down 1 deck and you are in the disembarkation area.

Going to Parrot Cay, just walk to the aft stairs and go up one flight of stairs. If Animators Palete is your destination, just one flight above Parrot Cay, and you are there. Need to goto beat street/Rt 66, go to the forward stairs, up one flight and you are there, if you go up 2 flights you're at the Walt Disney Theater, up three flights and you are near the kids clubs. Goto mid ship and up one flight for Lumiers or Tritons, up another and you're at the DCL shops and near Studio Sea and shutters.

You notice that I keep mentioning the stairs. The Lifts (elevators in USA speak) are mostly there for looks. Kids age 5 to 12 use them as their ride (you know we are not at WDW) They seem to like to go into them and push ALL of the buttons! You can wait a long time for them and when you only need to go 1 or 2 flights, its much quicker to walk.

So that leaves deck 9 and 10. Thats a stinking long climb up the stairs. And the first day or two it is a lot of hard work, but by day 3 you're starting to get into shape. Going down from 9 to 2 can be kinda dangerous if you get dizzy!! Since they are 1/2 flights you going in circles really quickly!

Take the stairs and enjoy all of the great food that DCL has to offer. They make a good workout. And that is the real benefit to being down on deck two. Along with the great view of the ocean out of those huge portholes if you are in a cat 9 room.

Personally, I'd take a higher deck even if it meant a possible noisy room. Especially if it is only for 4 nights. How much time would you spend there anyway? I like the convenience of decks 6 & 7 and have never had an issue with motion. Are these available rooms aft or forward?

Edited to add: The reason we like the higher deck is that we spend a lot of time at Quiet Cove Pool and the Spa. We always try for Decks 5 or higher, Forward. Just our preference.

Deck 2 ..Stateroom 2131 LOVED IT!!! It was our first cruise, me, hubby and two children ages 5 and 12. No noise, slept like a baby!!!!

Thanks for all the responses. Now DH has decided he must have a porthole. So it looks like I am going to book a Category 9.Thanks again.

GOOD LUCK & HAPPY SAILIN'! :boat:

You'll be happy just to be onboard! :)

You'll enjoy the porthole. It is nice to see light in the morning and to be able to look out and see 'where' you are (we loved watching us pull in to Castaway Cay).

Any room is fine as long as you are on the ship! :boat: And sometimes you just have to look at your own finances and think about what you would enjoy the most. After 3 cruises in a Cat. 11, we finally sailed with a porthole (Secret Porthole Room). NOW DH has decided he REALLY likes having a window. Of course, when I tell him 'prices' he isn't quite so firm about the idea (he's frugal). But the SPH rooms are really a good value. I am hoping to get one for our 2005 cruise once the rest of 2005 becomes available.

westjones: My original plan was to book a secret porthole for a June 2005 cruise. But then that seemed so far away and the Dec 19 cruise was such a good price and the kids are out of school. I can't wait to see the Christmas decorations. I was surprised that dh wanted to spend the extra money for a porthole (he even thought about a veranda but I really did not think it was worth it to us for a 4 day).
I am just glad we are booked.
See you there.:)

Glad you are booked and joining us too! I am sure next year a very active thread will start up for those going on this cruise. I have a feeling it will be a full one since DCL made it 'value priced' during a time that kids are out of school. I was really surprised they did that!

I can't wait for our Christmas cruise and to see the beautiful decorations!

See you there!

Look for the cool lifesize gingerbread house downstairs from Shutters and before the hallway leading to Animator's Palette. It is SO pretty!!!
