OMG. Flights for wdw are out of this world

I just checked for our flights for Jan. We’re actually on the old system going but the new assigned seats coming home.
Going is 250$ PP which is the second lowest
Had a heart attack when I saw the fare coming home. 645 PP
That’s insane.
Last year it was 400$ for both of us RT
hoping this will get better but not counting on it at this point

I'm assuming you're complaining about SW prices? And booking for 6 months from now when assigned seating begins? Give it a few weeks for revenue management to have some history to look at and I bet it will be about the same as the legacy carriers. If those prices are high than SW prices will be high. But I can't see a scenario where I'm paying $900 out of my own pocket to fly in SW.

Keep an eye on rates they can swing wildly one day to the next. We just got back from a trip to California and the rates were swinging literally thousands of dollars(cross country flight for 4 people) until about 2 months before our trip then they kind of settled.

I've definitely started looking at other airlines moving forward. Too bad as we've flown with SW exclusively for over 10 years and over 100 flights.

Wow! I think our paths crossed on the Southwest thread-I also am going on the "old" system, returning on the "new". I must admit, I'm feeling better about what I paid. It was less than $200 PP to get there, and about $300 PP returning, and that's for whatever used to be business select. I panicked and paid for the highest fare, so I could get a good seat (which I did). The problem now is that now if I change my flight due to the price going down, can I check the seats before I commit to the new fare? Frankly, since I'll be solo, I may prefer to keep the higher fare since I'm happy with the seating. I don't want to chance taking the lower fare, then finding out that only middle seats are left.

If you are keeping the same flight and just modifying to get credit (back to your credit card instead of an expiring flight credit since you paid for the highest tier) It should recognize your seat and allow you to keep it.

The issue is if you move to an earlier or later flight or on a different day if a good seat will be available.

I just booked my next flight on Delta. They might have a new customer! It's been a long time since I've flown on Delta, it is usually either JetBlue or SW for me. Delta had better prices and flight times, so I'm on board (literally and figuratively).

I think if you switch to a lower tiered category, then you would lose your seat. If the price drops in the same category as you booked, then you should be able to keep your seat. But who knows at this point???

You've got that right!

We are between PHL & BWI and have used Southwest A LOT over the past 20 years or so. So much so that we both have the cards & frequently made the points work for us. But we've also found that American (mostly outta PHL, but out of BWI as well) has decent flights in terms of price & times, which are often just as important if not as important for us. I'm headed to Minneapolis later this month for work and was able to get r/t n/s first class for $630. Sold! Also got decent flights non stop to Edinburgh in Sept. and am eyeing American for flights next spring to Orlando twice (once work, once for fun), Ft. Myers (see folks in conjunction w/ Orlando) and Dublin.

I'm not sure how far out your trip is, but keep an eye on it to make sure they don't make drastic changes. The good thing is if they do (I *THINK* it's one hour difference in arrival or departure time), you can call and have them change you to any flight that day for no charge. We've done it often when travelling with family, book months (think 6+) out on the "cheaper" time, Delta makes a "significant" change, so I have them move us to a better flight (that was MUCH more expensive).

And by "keeping an eye out", I just mean checking every week or two. They will try to notify you, but don't count on it.
