Need advice on taking engagement photos for some friends

A couple of our friends will be getting married later this year and since money is tight for them they have asked if we would take their engagement pictures. We will be doing this for them for free but I want to make them as good as possible. I mostly enjoy taking landscape photos so I don't have a lot of experience with true portrait photography. Our location will likely be a zoo or a nice park.

Any of you pros or semi pros have advice that you could share - or a book or website to recommend?

Thanks. Lots of good stuff there from just a quick glance. I might need to print that out and have my "assistant" (aka my DW) carry it around and correct me as we take them, haha.
