We have never stayed at the Polynesian. We are DVC members at the BWV and we also have stayed at the Contemporary. On our trip in Nov. we visited the Poly and really liked the beach and pool area. Does anyone have advice on best room location and any other tips for staying there? Also, any ideas on when to get discounts, AP or otherwise? Thanks for the help!

First of all MicheleC, I am your neighbor right next door in Aberdeen!:cool1:
We stayed in Samoa. It is centrally located. You face either the Volcano pool or the quiet pool. It is convenient to the GCH. If it's raining you can take shortcuts through other longhouses.
If you do a search for Tikiman 2001 (no spaces)you will find out everything you ever wanted to know about the Poly.

I agree go to the website mentioned. Some things to consider though; Do you want to be near the Volcano or near the Quiet pool? What room view or category are you getting? (Certain Buildings have dedicated categories) Do you want a lagoon view, MK view or Garden View?

We had requested a Garden View, 1st or 3rd floor Samoa(no balconies on 2nd floor), facing volcano pool and got what we asked for in August and loved the room and location. We utilized the pool everyday and we were very close to Captain Cook's.

For our trip this past November we stayed at the Poly. It was our first time staying there, we have stayed at the GF for the past several trips. We paid for only a garden view room and requested the Tokelau building which we got. Our view from our balcony was directly across from the Tahiti building but off to the left was a view of the lake and the Contemporary in the background. It was a lovely (and quiet) view. I wasn't sure if you wanted to upgrade your view, but if you wanted "standard" then Tokelau is a good bet. Also, the rooms in Tokelau (and a couple of the other longhouses) are somewhat bigger than most of the standard rooms at the Poly and all of the rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floor had balconies. This is not the case with all of the longhouses - some only have balconies on the third floor with a "fake" balcony on the second story. All first floors have patios if I am not mistaken. All in all, we really liked the Poly and I would stay there again, but dh really prefers the GF. Hope this helps!

The categories are as follows, from least expensive to most, garden - lagoon- magic kindgom - garden club level - lagoon club level (mk view) - suites. We have stayed MK view and lagoon view club level, AWESOME!

garden, MK view, and lagoon view rooms all look like this:

MK view: (lagoon view is very similar - may have more foilage, but fireworks can be seen BEAUTIFULLY) This was taken 3rd floor Hawaii (club level)

For a standard room I'd go with Tokelau, Samoa or Fiji (in that order though I have stayed in Samoa). For a lagoon view room without going the concierge route I prefer Tuvalu. Tahiti has very nice lagoon views and slightly bigger rooms but you're also further away from the GCH.

Definitely check out Tikiman's website. His website is a gold mine for info on the Poly. :thumbsup2
