Need advice on fastpass

I have used fastpass before, but I can't remember all the rules to when you can get another fastpass after you have already gotten one. Can anyone help me out? Also does it matter whether you have a hopper ticket or a 1 day ticket?

Ticket type doesn't matter. At WDW if I remember correctly (DL is my home park and it's a little different), you can get another 5 minutes after your FP return window opens or 2 hours after you get the FP--whichever comes first.

Ok, let me see if I'm following you, the 5 minutes into my time window I understand, but lets say I was there early in the day at 10am and got a very late fp for sm at 8pm I could then get another fp after 12pm for something else and be able to use it even if it was for a time before the 8pm sm pass?( I've never done that part before- forgive me!)

Yes, that's correct. Be sure to check the ticket. The time for the next fastpass available is printed on the bottom. Sometimes it is less than 2 hours even if the ride time is later. One time I got one for Jungle Cruise that said I could get another one in 5 minutes.

Thanks for all the great info- we are going Christmas week with two small children and they do not wait in lines well- we usually only ride things with fp. This will be a great help with figuring out when we can get second one (before all I've done is use the fp, then go get another on for something else)

This is what I suggest for now.

Get your first Fastpass for what you think is going to be a very crowded ride.

If the time for next Fastpass is the full two hours later, try for your next Fastpass just one hour later at a not quite so crowded ride.

If you succeed in getting a second (or fourth) Fastpass before the time stated, get your third (or fifth) Fastpass for a really crowded ride after the time stated, otherwise get your next Fastpass for a really crowded ride.

All the while waiting in the regular line for other not so crowded rides between Fastpass tries.
