You know, I'm thinking it was one of those things where an elderly person bough them for a charity event or a family gift and then died before giving them. It is the only thing that would explain the collection. And that they were never noticed.
I'd like to say I would have noticed them, but I helped pack up both grandmothers estates after death. There is just no way to go through it all. You get to the point where you're just stacking anything no one wants into the truck for goodwill or the dump, and it's complicated by grief. It was incredibly difficult to get my mother to look through stuff when she was crying over ties that grandpa had not worn since 1990.
