Another quick question…..unfortunately, we will need to finance with DVC and are trying to determine how much to put as a down payment and how much this will cost each month. How do I calculate that amount?

The minimum purchase from DVC is 150 points. The "$1500 discount" is $10 off per point on 150 points. With the referral discount you get $15 off per point. The two specials cannot be combined.

IIRC, you need to put at least 10% (based upon the $101 price) as a down payment. You can pay cash (check) or credit card. The $15 per point is then deducted from the balance. The remaining amount is the amount to be financed.

DVC's lowest rate is 9.75%. Use Excel or some financial calculator to reach your monthly payment amount over 10 years. It's probably in the $150-170 range. Also factor in roughly $50 per month for the annual dues. (The above assumes a 150 point purchase.)

Bear in mind that after 10 years the monthly mortgage payments drop off and you only pay the dues for the next 35+ years. Financing will add quite a bit of interest to the purchase. Consider using a home equity loan if possible or at least attempting to pay it off early.

If I remember correctly they send you out in the packets a breakdown of financing options and down payments. It has several scenarios for you to determine what is best as the rate changes for time to repay and down payment amounts. I do not think I still have mine as we opted not to finance but someone else can probably scan it and e-mail it to you. I can check when I get home tonight or in the A.M.

We've been SSR members since our Disney Cruise 3 years ago, and just bought another 115 points with their current promotion--what a great deal! I can't tell you how excited we were to see SSR for the first time (we bought into DVC "sight unseen" on our cruise). Even my New Yorker hubby, who doesn't get excited about anything, got really excited about our DVC purchase after we saw it! We'd been saying in the past year or so that it would be nice if the price was still where it was when we bought (it was $89 per point then, but we got the $5 per point discount for buying while on the ship--paid $84 per point). When this $86 per point deal dropped out of the sky, we were thrilled!!! Prospective members--you will LOVE DVC! Welcome Home!

You're the second person who has mentioned the Disney Dollars--I was under the impression that, since they were offering such a big discount to our "friends and family," that there was no "reward" for these referrals. They're offering Disney Dollars? Hmmm... I gave a referral to a dear friend (neighbor), and did tell her that if I got anything for referring her, that I'd definintely hand it over--part of being friends! That's great. I'd be happy to share any "reward," as well.

not happy after reading this thread ,and finding out i could have saved another $5 per point
at this stage we have signed all the paper work and have 3 weeks to pay the balance
