Need a referral for the current DVC purchase incentive?

There is definitely something they are not telling you because I have been a member since 1994 and I have given referrals to people from England to Hawaii and have never come across this. I would challenge it and perhaps ask to speak with a supervisor.

Good luck

I went to a presentation on Thurs with no previous knowledge of DVC and its workings. I may purchase as the incentives offered for AKV are pretty good, including $8/ point which can apply towards downpayment...so effectively $96/point. This as well as the equivalent # of points I purchase received immediately..but usable only at Saratoga Springs Resort or Disneyland hotel. Thru this forum, it appears I can rent these for around $9/ point...so now effectively $87/point. And 2 free premium annual passes for Disneyland now or Disneyworld to be activated within 3 years.

I got a name referred to me from this forum, but my guide says it has to be a legit referral AND she would not honor it. So if I could actually have someone in my local area, especially someone I could talk to on the phone, I might be able to get the $500 referral incentive...and I think the person referring gets something too but I'm not sure of that. It ends today...so I need help ASAP. If I purchase 170 point with the additional $500 incentive, it makes the effective price $84/ point.

2 Annual Passes, IN ADDITION TO $500 Referral?

Anyone else hear anything about that?

When the new promos start tomorrow, 9/21...PLEASE POST DETAILS!
MUCH APPRECIATED!

If that is the case, how much is the annual pass now? Over $300, correct..
That is probably around $600 IN ADDITION TO THE $500 Member Referral?

Thats a nice promo! Anyone else get this offered?

THANKS AGAIN!:wizard:

While the current incentive ended today - there's no guarantee a new one begins tomorrow (9/21). Sure one could be coming soon - but don't count on it tomorrow, and don't count on the addition of an AP over a gift card as an across the board incentive. I've heard from some folks that got some pretty darn generous incentives for a very limited time at Doorway to Dreams in Chicago and also at DL Resort - but not across the board as a blanket incentive. From what my guide explained, the AKV incentive of $8 discount per point will still be out there - but no gift card... obviously it remains to be seen what DVC actually decides to do and actually announces or begins offering across the system. Until then - it's anybody's guess.

They may very well back off of new incentives at AKV for a bit and just let BLT keep their sales numbers up -- maybe when that slows up they will start something else. I guess only time will tell...

I was able to contact another member...and I also called the sales supervisor.

I did purchase...and it went as follows:

The supervisor said I would either get the $500 referral bonus or the $500 Disney VISA bonus...turns out they gave me the Disney VISA bonus as the referral bonus can't be combined with the 2 premium annual passes. This even though the Disney VISA bonus expired on 9/15. I don't think they ever allowed both the $500 Disney VISA bonus and the $500 referral incentive.

And I charged $2500 to my Disney VISA card, interest free for 6 months...and receive $25 reward dollards...they allowed me to charge the rest to my American Airlines MasterCard...so I'll receive a little over 12,500 miles (1/2 free US roundtrip ticket--probably worth around $250)

My math is probably off somewhat...but I think the price per point is in the mid to lower 70s with this package. My reasoning:

$104 - $8 is $96

If I use the 160 "VPO" points on hotel stays in a Disneyland hotel...I live close enough this is what I think I'll do...this is worth around $2000...so $12.5 per point bringing net to $83.5 per point

The $500 Disney VISA reward is a little over $3 per point...so now just over $80 per point

I chose to get the two Disney World Premium Annual Passes as there is no expiration date on when I activate them...and they are transferable...worth $1000 in total..so now around $74+ per point

And the $25 Disney Reward dollars and what is around $250 for the airline miles (I'm pretty careful to cash in only when a RT costs more than $500) would be a little less than $2 per point..so around $72+ per point

I was thinking about buying resale, but after doing the math..this seemed better. I get 160 points this December (though cant use until 5/1/09)...and closing costs were a little above $200...which perhaps negates the $225 value of being able to use the charge cards..so still around $74+ per point.

I'm already looking forward to booking some time. Probably Florida trip in early 12/09.

Just curious if any members have ever received a level 2 referral reward or above? I received my letter from DVC (in August)thanking me for my referral. Also received confirmation from the new member(in September) that they made their purchase. Received a call from my guide this week to give me and "update" that the person I referred chose NOT to purchase. Thought this was strange.

Anyone else have this happen? I see no reason for anyone involved to lie. Just not sure what is going on. Maybe the referral $$ is deducted from the guides commissions and they are not willing to give a level 2 reward.

I got a level 2 reward once but I had to call my guide to make sure I got it. I knew the second person bought and I hadn't heard a thing about it from DVC for months. So I called my guide and asked her about it. She did some checking and I got my reward. Maybe your second person was not attached to you? Or did they end up buying resale? I'd be proactive and see what's up with your guide.

I'm now waiting for a second friend to buy this year. If they do, I'll let everyone know if my second reward comes through. I love getting other people hooked on DVC.

1st..It has been my understanding for these past 6 yrs. that Disney doesn't give commissions to the guides. Why there is no cut-throating, customer stealing, like other timeshare horror stories. Sure sales are tracked.

2nd..
thanking me for my referral
That's ALL it is.
Thank You's come way before the "newbie" decides to purchase...IF they purchase and given when they give your name....and has nothing definitive about getting your perk....just a nice jesture.

3rd...You are eligible...if your state allows.. only AFTER contracts are signed and it takes a few weeks/mos. sometimes to get that next letter.

Have you tried to contact the person you referred and just ask them? If could be that they either changed their mind and rescinded or maybe they didn't qualify for financing or something. If you don't hear back from them and are still suspicious -- just check the Orange County Comptrollers website in a few weeks (I have no idea how long it takes to be recorded) and see if their name shows up. If it does, call your guide and ask why you were told they didn't purchase.

I just got a letter from my guide thanking me for the referral. My friends have only gone through the information session and have not signed the papers yet. So I will not actually receive the referral until they close. So, that may be what happened to you. Your guides sends out the thank you for the refferral letter, then your friends decided not to join.

Sorry to cut in, but I am new to this. Just to make sure I am following, when I decide to purchase, I can give a name of some of that referred me and then in return they get something. In order to make sure the person is given credit I must give them the name before I sign the contract, is this correct?
Thanks

Yes, that is correct. You have to give it to the guide at your first contact. Sometimes they do promotions for the buyers if they use a referral before they purchase. A promotion that just ended last week was that the new buyer received a $500 visa gift card if they joined just for using a referral.

Ok, I will make sure I do that when I go to my trip in Nov, I am thinking of doing a tour, so I can get a feel and talk to someone face to face. How often do they have promotions like that?

I talked to my guide about some referal issues i saw on the boards a few days ago. She said to get the referal the person has to come in w/ the person that refered thems name and address from day 1. if you try to add a referal after you have a file open on you it doesnt work. they had to modify some rules because members were abusing the system. so if you know someone interested tell your guide there info so you make sure you get credit.

I guess that is the new rule but it sounds crazy to me. So, say Jane Doe sees a commercial for DVC. Call the number, is transfered to a guide and sent information. She call back and decides to buy but can't add a referral? That is just stupid. What if between the two calls she does a little research and reads about a referral deal. Finds a referral but is penalized because she didn't not have this name at first contact. Really ridiculous if you ask me. Then, if that is the case, the guides should inform a potential buyer of the referral deal and tell them they need to call back in 24 hours with a name--or something similar. It sounds as if they are looking for a way to hide a good deal from buyers. Just my 2 cents.

If you refer someone, they give that person the same guide as you. That is perhaps the reason for the trouble in adding it after the person has already contacted DVC and spoke with a guide...With that said it is still possible to add a referal, just takes a few extra steps. It can still be done. A friend of mine did it yesterday and had gotten information sent to her a while ago.
