Need a referral for the current DVC purchase incentive?

We don't have the same guide as the guy who referred us. We called into the DVC number and spoke with Steve. We told him that DH's friend Dave was DVC member and really thought we should look into membership. I have no clue who Dave's guide is, but I know it isn't our guide Steve.

DH and I went to the presentation a few weeks ago and met w/ a guide to discuss buying. I mentioned the referral to him and asked if that was still available. He said it was and I said that I wanted to use a referral. He said and I quote, "It's not one of those internet referrals is it? Where you just have a screen name." At first I thought he was joking, no he was serious. I said "Nooooo...I have their name and info and I'll call you with that when I get home." Of course I didn't a referral at the time, but I didn't want to miss out on the $500 visa card. I actually got a referral from a fellow DISer who lives about 45 minutes from me and as fate would have it he was her guuide also. Talk about everything falling into place....Thanks again Jennifer!

So....I'm not surprised that they are putting new referral guidelines in place. What does it matter where your referral comes from. They should LOVE internet forums. talk about free marketing.

Are there people that really just have them a screen name? If so, I can see why it would be frustating for the people administering the program. Of course on the plus side...they wouldn't know who to give the referral bonus to!

Hi Everyone:

We have been considering DVC for years, and now that BLT is finally here, I think we are getting ready to purchase.
Does anyone have a great DVC guide they can recommend? I would rather have a recommendation than take my chances with who I might randomly get.

We will be staying at WL and Poly at the end of Oct. - into early Nov., and would especially like a guide based at one of those two resorts, but that's not critical.

If it is more appropriate to PM me with this type of question, that would be fine.

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced new guidelines concerning referrals. It was mentioned a few posts ago that the referrer and the referree had to go in together and meet with the guide...that just seems crazy. I understand them wanting to make sure the two parties involved actually know each other, etc -- but having them both in attendence seems a way too extreme. Any updates?

Yes, I read that too and blew it off as a misunderstood comment, guide/newbie..newbie/guide. Remember...Disney has hired some part-time guides now and some "think" they know what the rules are.

Nothings changed...spoke to my guide 2 weeks ago.. i.e. BLT and NO mention of "NEW" referral system and we speak at least every 2 months....referred a newbie 3 weeks ago (they give name/address of member...AS USUAL)...got my thank you letter...DVC web site is status Quo..
My standard rule: Never believe any poster especially about policy/$$...get an "official" response fron your guide.

Im waiting to hear...the traditional Fall Friend & Family Incentive to be announced....can't imagine they won't do it this year.
Should be a decent incentive (as the Fall ones usually are) to intice buyers with the economy the way it is!! We'll see!!

I'm very new to DIS and am very strongly considering buying into DVC and I'm not aware of the referral incentives that are out there . Can someone explain to me how this all works. Does both the buyer and referer get an incentive and if so, what kind of incentives have been offered in the past. I'm not out to get into Disney's pockets (like they couldn't afford it ) but I also wouldn't want to miss out on any great offers/incentives either! Thanks ahead of time !

Right now there is no referral incentive for the buyer...just the person giving the referral (it's a tiered program that starts at $200 for the first referral). Recently they had a promo where the person buying received a $500 giftcard if they had a referral from an existing member. Hopefully they will do this again soon.
