Last year, we bought the Baggalini messenger bag and it worked well, but I really like backpacks better. I've read the article on Mouseplanet and they recommend the Rick Steves bag http://travelstore.ricksteves.com/catalog/index.cfm?fuseaction=product&theParentId=8&id=40. I searched and a while back someone posted about their Olympia mini backpack which looks good too: http://www.ebags.com/olympia/academy_mini_back_pack/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=87800

I'd love any insight on either of these bags...or another if you know of one.

Thanks for your help!

I went to Target and bought the Greatland Sling Bag. It has 1 big compartment and 1 in the front to put my camera, camcorder. It has a cellphone holder and a padded strap that you sling over your left shoulder or can wear over your head so its across the front of you. Didn't think it was too bad $ 14.99

You can't go wrong with a Mountainsmith Lumbar Day Pack with the strapettes. It wears like a fanny pack, yet has backpack straps that distribute the load evenly. I even fashioned the interior pocket of mine to make it hydration compatible up to 1.5 liters of water using a sewing machine and a piece of neoprene.

I bought the "Civita Shoulder Bag" from Rick Steves online & really like it.
It is not as big as the "Day Pack", but perfect in the parks. Very light weight!

I actually found out about this bag through the Dis - a member (loveysbydesign) posted a review with picture of it - and I was hooked.

I really like this bag - as it does not have a magnet (unlike other Travelons) - its expandable, has card slots....and its just the right size to carry what I want to bring into the parks - I can wear it all day without taking it off - very convenient bag. (Note: it is a little smaller than the regular Travelon bag - but I find that to be a benefit for in park usage)

Here's the bag on Ebags:

I like the messenger bags that are sold at Wal Mart. They strap over the shoulder and have plenty of pouches to hold cellphones and cameras. I just purchased one last month. I think it was 13.00 plus tax.
