Need a little help

DH and I are going to be in Vegas from Sept 9-11 for the first time ever! We need a suggestion of a good but relatively inexpensive place to stay. I was going to book the Stratosphere but reviews and location are making me change my mind. We will have our car but I don't want to have to drive everywhere. If I have to drive here and there that's fine but I would like to walk most places. Any help you can give me would be great! Thanks!

The least expensive place where I would stay on the strip would probably be Paris. It's located in the middle of the strip but is not as expensive as the places around it. Further down would be Monte Carlos, NY NY and MGM that often have very reasonable rates.

Disclaimer: There are less expensive places on the strip that others might recommend; this is just my opinion on where I would be happy staying. I've stayed at most of the hotels on the strip but there are some I would not stay at. I would not stay at Stratosphere either.

Glad you added the disclaimer, pakey because both Bally's (next/attached to Paris) and Flamingo just a tad north of that are regularly much less expensive than Paris. So is Imperial Palace, and Bill's Gambling Hall, and Harrah's... all are within a couple of blocks of each other, right at one of the two main Strip intersections.

We really love to stay at The Paris. If you go Harrah's website, sometimes you can find really great deals. Not too long ago, they had a package special for the Rendevous Lounge. It was about $100 a night and included access to the lounge which serves breakfast and appetizers and drinks. They charge $50 a night to add the lounge access, so that is not a bad deal.

I would consider the MGM if the rate was great. You can take the monorail up to the other end of the strip and walk around there.

Also, we never rent a car. Just take taxis, from the airport, to either end of the strip etc. Very reasonable.

I can get a standard (luxrury I guess they call it) room at Paris for 99 per night. Is it really a good hotel to stay in? Otherwise I can get a premier room for 139 per night but I really don't want to spend that much.

I love both Imperial Palace and Bill's Gambling Hall.
Center strip, cheap and old school. Both are a bit
frayed around the edges, but both offer clean rooms
and good service at an affordable price.

Bill's is so small you end up feeling like family there.

Yes, it's a good place to stay. The pool is nothing impressive - just a rectangle on a lower roof - but for two nights you're probably not going to care much . Paris does have one of the best buffets - stations, sort of like at Boma, but representing different regions/cuisines.

But - 'inexpensive' is relative. I'm going at the end of October, staying about a mile off the Strip (will need a car no matter what, due to relatives in the area), and paying just under $38 per night.

Paris is very nice. I stayed there for the 1st time last March and really liked the room. We were just in the plain room. Paris is a great location for a 1st timer. Keep an eye on Smarter Vegas hotel deals. Think we paid $69 a night with a code from the website. Have fun!!!

I've stayed at many different places in Vegas and I have my favorites for different reasons but lately I've enjoyed staying at the Las Vegas Hilton. The deals have been excellent, the rooms have been refurbed and very comfortable, the shows are decent, and getting a day-pass to the monorail can be a fun way to explore the strip. I will be staying there again next week in fact.

I have stayed in all kinds of places on the Strip and I really like Harrah's. It is nice, clean, quiet but best of yet you can go from the front door to your room in less than 5 minutes. There are also some really nice but not overly fancy resturants there. Not so at the larger hotels. I love the larger hotels too but when I am tired I don't want to walk another mile to my room.

We ended up choosing Planet Hollywood. Going to be there very soon can't wait!
