need a clarifying shampoo - on a budget

Ewwww! I'm sorry, but that is just gross IMHO! I must wash my hair everyday WITH shampoo.

If you washed your hair less, you wouldn't have to wash your hair so much. ;) There is nothing gross about going several days between hair-washings, if you're not sweating like crazy or working a deep fryer.

My hairstylist recommends baking soda for a clarifying treatment. Just mix the baking soda and water to form a "paste" rub through hair then shampoo followed by conditioner. I use sulfate free shampoo. Leaves my hair clean and soft.

Or junking it up with a lot of shampoo, conditioner, heat protector, hold spray, shine, shaping wax....

A lot of washing tells your scalp to create more oil to replace that which you are washing away. Less washing, less oil is being produced. Fewer harsh cleansers on your hair to wash away that extra oil being created by washing your hair every day mean less need for conditioners and other products. Less stuff in your hair gives you cleaner hair, both because of the stuff itself, and because a lot of the stuff that makes hair look good is sticky...and over the course of the day collects dirt.

If I'm putting product in my hair, it gets gross if I don't wash it every day. But that isnt my hair, its the stuff in my hair. When I skip product, I can go about three days and mine isn't very "trained" for it.

I know quite a few people who would be walking around with brillo heads if they washed everyday. And these are people from a few different races, not everyone should wash everyday.

For pool hair, try tomato paste. Or ketchup if you don't have tomato paste handy. We've been using it on D's naturally blonde hair for years. I had bought every clarifying shampoo, pool shampoo, etc made before someone told me this tip. Wet down your hair, use the tomato paste or ketchup as shampoo then rinse it all out (note--water will be pink, for some reason this spooked D). Then shampoo and condition. Her hair is soft, shiney and no green.

The red tomato paste will cut the green but not do much for the chlorine.

interesting...do u know if u could use the baking soda on your hair if u get the brazilian keratin treatment?

No, no, please no. Not if you want to keep the keratin treatment. You should be using sulfate free products and nothing 'clarifying' as that would strip out the treatment.

wow! guys , you are amazing. Thanks for all the info.

So....looks like I need a new shampoo. Had no idea about pantene.

So what kind should I try? I have thick hair, wavy , and I do NOT NEED volume. Ha!

I have very thick & curly hair. I've used Biolage Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioning Balm forever. I used to buy it at JCPenney's when they took coupons, but now I have a hair stylist friend get it for me (at cost.) :cool1:
