Need A Bit of Advice!

OK I'll try to make this quick. We're new DVC owners (50 at BLT Direct, 150 at BWV resale). Tripped planned for 6/24 - 7/1/18 with family who are also DVC members. They are staying at BLT and our plan is to do also the same. Purchased 210 points resale and 50 points direct to take advantage of the direct membership perks. Unfortunately, the resale points were taken during ROFR. Other resale contracts have not panned out for one reason or another. Am currently on the waiting list for 100 additional direct points (Need February UY). Meanwhile, just got an offer accepted for 150 resale. Hoping for the best and a quick transaction but a little weary of ROFR. And who knows how long this transaction will take! I'm a little worried that we might miss out on availability (need 1 BR) as their standard views are already listed as "partially available". The lake and MK view rooms are still available for now... Hopefully ROFR will go quick because I would rather purchase resale but if direct comes available (I've already been waiting about a month) I will more than likely take those points just in case ROFR is exercised on the resale points (hopefully timing will be in my favor).

So my question is: what options do I have to ensure that I can reserve a room at BLT as I only have 100 points currently (50 2017 points and 50 2018 points) but need 301 points total (short 201)? I can't use my BWV points because #1 - 7 month window is not until November and #2 - planning to use my BWV points for 2019 at BWV. TIA!

Can you book a studio? That would get you more nights at BLT.

Unless you rent a reservation, or book a cash one, I do not know how to ensure you'll be staying at BLT. Do your friends have enough points so you can rent from them?

You could buy BLT direct, but that is pretty pricey. I might run the numbers with BLT direct vs. renting your vacation at 11 month rates, and then purchasing BLT resale without rushing it.

That could change quickly as they review contracts submitted for ROFR.

Been on the list for a month already. You would think they'd be available because they've already taken 2 of my contracts but I'm still waiting empty handed...

You can transfer points to them. One transfer is allowed per year. Or, you can arrange to book a reservation for them in the future. Be sure the terms are understood by both of you.
