we are going the end of August. I know it will be HOT I've heard about these neck coolers. has anybody tried them? Do they work how long do they stay cool for/ Where can you get them? thanks

I think I have seen them at Sharper Image but I am not totally sure. This was also a while ago.

I wonder if they work too. I was just thinking about this yesterday. We are going in late August. I hope somebody posts...

We used them last year in August and found them totally worth it! :thumbsup2
We were there during 115 F heat index days, and when we didn't wear the neck coolers, the heat was unbearable. My DD is susceptible to heat stroke, and these kept her doing okay!

FYI, DH and DS got a rash from wearing them for so long, and I'm not sure about washing them, so I just ordered new ones. Try www.badgersden.com.
Great prints and solids, and only 6.95, free shipping and handling!

I used these while Playing Paintball in 100 degree weather .They work great I wore one around my neck and one as a head band under a doorag they stay cool for a while if you refigerate them the night before /

If not a quick dip at a water fountian or sink will recharge them .If you can get a cup of ice water from a CS ( FREE ) you can drink some of the water then dip in the Cooler and your all set.

I just ordered some for my August trip from QVC. I got 6 for about $22.00. The item is F8091 and they are called Cool Dowz neck wraps. I really don't need six, but I'm going to give 1 or 2 to my sister, since she has MS and can't take the heat. QVC also have a set of two with two spray misters for about $16.00. That looked good, but we didnt' like the print of the wraps. Also, there is a website www.craftywench.com that you can order them individually from. They are about 3.99 and up. I've never tried these, so I don't really know how good they work. Good luck and have fun on your trip.

Darn, we were just there...where in Walmart do they have them? Thanks!

In the sporting good either at the hunting or weight lifting areas Sometimes just hanging on th isle ends.they will be slim on a card looking like a small neck tie hanging.

We bought 4 for our trip last September (mid month) we never used them. But we also never waited in any line over 10 minutes long, except for 1, so being in the AC so often, we didn't need them.

I have used them at home, especially after hurricanes and no power. They do help plenty. :thumbsup2 So for an August trip I would highly recommend them.

Got a bunch at WalMart last year in the camping section. They are called Aquacool, and look like a rolled bandana.

Personally, I didn't really like them, just thought they felt "icky", but my mother uses hers all the time in the summer.

They cost me less than $2.00 last summer, so if you can get them for that, it is worth a try.

How do they work? can you keep them in a bag for an hour or so and then if/when you are super hot can you whip them out and expect them to cool you off? I also see there are 2 kinds - the necktie kinds on QVC and I did find a neck cooler on sharperimage.com--some kind of electronic cooler. Just wondering what type most are referring to and what (if any) works better.

Thanks a bunch!

:thumbsup2 I found mine in the sporting goods department.

I will probably soak mine in the morning and put them in the fridge while we get ready. I'll probably bring a small lunch bag size cooler with me and my put them in that until we need them at the parks. Then we'll have the cooler if the kids don't drink all their chocolate milk or if we have extra desserts from lunch (trying out the meal plan for the first time).

I got my neck coolers online at countrynmore. I soak my neck cooler in ice water for about 30 minutes, and it is so refreshing.

We used them our first trip. They worked great....for the first 3 days.

FYI
After the third day in the water constantly, we wore them and got a terrible rash on our necks. It was the gel stuff coming out. I don't think over night was enough time to dry up before getting wet again and so, we got rashes. It was like lots of mosquito bites. Just thought I would tell you. If you do it, make sure you can alternate some. They really did work until then.
:sunny:

These sound like the perfect solution to the heat, especially since I have MS and heat and I do not get along. I guess I should get enough to have some drying while wearing others. Thanks for all your posts they answered the questions I never had to post.

Now, I am wondering what was in the water for 3 days. I know that you aren't to wear these in the pool. The chlorine from the pool will react with the polymer crystals, and that probably caused the skin irritations. If the neck coolers are soaking longer than the recommended time, then you will have problems with the polymer oozing out. One time, I accidentally put it in the washer, and the inside of the washer was a BIG mess!

We didn't wear them in the pool or anything like that. I think they just were wet for too long. They never had a chance to dry out and get wet again. We had long days in the park and started again the next day. We re-wet them to be sure they were ready in the morning. That is just my thought. I loved how they did help. I guess we will never know. Just wanted to warn others in case they had the same thing start....... :confused3

I ordered a 12 pack at IndustrialSavings.com for $26.28 yesterday (with UPS came to $35.46). I used a product like this several years ago when I was working cub scout camp. They work great. It is only myself and my son but I thought with so many I'd sent some to my cousin who likes to work in her garden and we could rotate scarfs instead of reusing the same one.

My husband is a kitchen manager for O'charley's. It gets hotter than you can imagine cooking over a gas flame for 6 hours. He wears one and loves it. I also gave my mom one. She is going through "the change" and loves hers.
