Yes there is pin trading.... Bring your pins.... Check the navigator for times.

For excursions, the only one that seemed interesting to me was the whale watching tour..... We also did this in Juneau last year and it was fabulous so I'm worried it could be a let down. With that said, we may do either a walking tour or take a cab to the Citadel and walk back. I read on another thread it's about $10 for the cab ( uphill ) and easy walking ( downhill) back to the port.

Hi Everyone!

I like the "Grand Finale" part of the name - kinda cool - I wonder if there will be anything special for us given that it is the last cruise from NY.

Back a page or so I posted some questions but I think it got lost in all the acitvity. Anyways, I was wondering about a couple of things..

Do they do pin trading on the cruises? Should we bring our Lanyards etc?

What are everyone's thoughts on the tours - are there reviews anywhere - We are interested in the Photography, Whale watchng, Citedel and the museum - but want to leave some time for our own window shopping. I read somewhere that the train one was not so good?

Ok - mUst get a FE today - any thoughts besides EBAY on purchasing one?

Think some ofthe ideas I have read about autographs are great - the pillowcases, vinylmation etc - Must decide can't do everything now!

Can it be that Palo is fully booked for our our trip already?? I keep checking online but it says sold out? WOW!

Has anyone ever ordered the room decorations from the ship - are they worth it ? I want to have something in the room when we arrive so do it myself is not an option - want the kids to be surprised for their Birthday!

Thanks everyone!

This past January I ordered the stateroom decorations for DH while we were on the Dream. They are really expensive on DCL - about twice what you'd pay on other cruise lines - but it is a nice surprise. You'll get a banner and this sparkly table decoration, a magnet, and a cake. The cake isn't the greatest - not much flavor. It's fun if you want your girls to be surprised, but not really worth the $50 that they charge for it, imo. But make sure you have their birthdays noted on the reservation - sometimes the waiters will surprise you with a dessert and singing.

This FB group this should not have to be so difficult. Here is a link to the group page... maybe this way will work.

Thanks!! It worked and I joined!!

I like the idea of the name too....grand finale is a good idea...what does everyone else think??

Yes, the do pin trading on board.

What are everyone's thoughts on the tours - are there reviews anywhere - We are interested in the Photography, Whale watchng, Citedel and the museum - but want to leave some time for our own window shopping. I read somewhere that the train one was not so good?

I read someone's TR and they really enjoyed the whale watching and the river cruise...right now we only have the HOHO bus in St. John booked...but we may change that.

Ok - mUst get a FE today - any thoughts besides EBAY on purchasing one?

You could try etsy too....I got mine years ago on ebay, but it is just a very generic mickey one that you would find in a general store[ /COLOR]

Think some ofthe ideas I have read about autographs are great - the pillowcases, vinylmation etc - Must decide can't do everything now!

We did the photo mats and the pillow cases a few years ago...we used the photo mats for our cruise pictures and the pillowcases were never used (but my kids were teenagers and didn't want to put them on their bed - I thought they were really nice!)

Can it be that Palo is fully booked for our our trip already?? I keep checking online but it says sold out? WOW!

You can try to book Palo when you get onboard but I don't remember where you go to change or book your dining reservations - I will try and find out.

My DH ordered the room decorations my birthday, but not with the cake. The decorations were great!! I especially love love the magnet on the door...what a great surprise. Inside there were disney decorations on the table and ceiling. I thought it was really nice! I will post some pictures once I find them

I'm sorry. Maybe I didn't ask the question correctly as I dont need help with a handicapped room as there is not one available for all 3 cruises.

What I need help with is the CM talked me into taking a Cat 5 on deck 7 saying it isnt noisy like deck 8 under the pool and gym for Cat 4.

But now that I have had to read the 3 cruise threads people are excited for deck 8 and I just looked at the deck plans and concierge is on deck 8. I can't imagine them putting the better rooms on a noisy deck if there wasn't insulation from the pool and gym?

So that's the question... Should I get moved from a Cat 5 on deck 7 to a Cat 4 on deck 8 when the DVC pricing was for all verandahs from 4a - to 7a if they still have any deck 8 rooms for all 3 cruises?

Basically I trusted the CM to put me in the best room, but now I'm doubting that. But I don't want to go to the trouble of getting deck 8 if in fact it is noisy.

I hope this makes more sense? Thanks!

:smickey: Christa

Sorry for the confusion, we have only stayed on deck 8 once, and I do not remember any noise, but I have heard folks complain about noise from above. We upgraded at the port the one time we were on deck 8.

Thanks Lynn - BTW, we are Guarantee so no cabin number yet -
I am going to order a fish extender tonight - saw some on ebay - any suggestions.

A couple of more questions -

Is there a lot or any pin trading on the cruise - should we bring our pins and landyards?

Excursions - are there any threads with reviews - I have seen a couple of negatives about the train on so now I am leary. We are looking at the photogrphy one, the whale watching and the Citadel and 1 or 2 others... Clearly we need to only pick 2! Or is everyone mainly doing ht hop on off or on their own.

Photos - Any idea if it is best to but the package up front - do you really save $4's?

Sorry - the frantic planning is under way!

Enjoy!

We were originally doing the train, but cancelled due to reviews. There is pin trading aboard. Can't tell you about best photo deal, we rarely buy the photos.

Hello everyone,

We also go for This cruise. It will be are second.
We are from Brussel (België). Love Disney, love cruise line.

Welcome to the cruise!

You know, maybe I should pay attention when I book cruises...

I just noticed that this itinerary is different from the one in June! In June we went to Halifax and then Saint John, on this one it's the other way around! So I guess that means it won't be a complete repeat for me:cool1:

Beth

Oh thank you All!! What super information. Beth the pictures are great. And the Navigators - well I tried not to look so it would be a surprise but couldn't resist so much valuable planning info in them. Thank you for sharing all this info.

I think I may do the room decoration package - I called today to see if I could have balloons or anything delivered to the ship on day of embarkation for the room but no such luck. I wonder why no balloons? Out of curiosity does anyone know why?

Ok - gotta run off to order some surprises for the trip! I love planning a Disney vacation !!

Enjoy and thanks again!

Hello "Grand Finale" cruise mates! :sail: Just made my reservation and was happy to see the Dis discussion & planning going strong. Any thoughts on port adventures? I am bringing my Mom on this cruise (Yeah Mother & Daughter cruise), so I am looking for something on the mild side & with some lobster, yum. Please share suggestions & both good and bad experiences so I know what to book & avoid - Thanks.

Not sure why balloons are not allowed, had friends try to take them aboard on another cruise, and they had to deflate all of them before they were allowed into the terminal, maybe something to do with the possibility of them "getting away" at sea, I do know there are big fines for anything that goes overboard on the ships.

We did the FE for the first time on our last Disney cruise. We enjoyed it so much that we bought a custom made FE from "ilvdisney2008" on etsy.com. She will make whatever you want in just 5 days.

We also did the pillowcase on our last cruise (wish we had known about this before as it was our 4th Disney cruise). It is easy to do. Just drop a pillowcase, sharpie, and bribe candy off in a gallon size ziplock at Guest Services. They have stickers to place on your bag with all of your information. The pillowcase and sharpie was returned to our cabin on the last night of the cruise (no candy :sad2:). It makes a nice keepsake.

I'm not going to attempt to recreate yesterday's post, but I did mention that my two friends are Julie (a fellow DIS'er and someone I've cruised with before and will be cruising with again) and Trina, whom I've known since first grade, not a DIS'er, and I think this is her first Disney cruise.

Beth

And I would be that Julie :wave2: Really looking forward to the cruise.

That's exactly it. While it would be nice to think DCL's primary concern is how bad it is for sea life when balloons end up in the ocean, I'm sure the huge fine is more of a deterrent. ;)

Hi Everyone! What great info. we're finding on here for our first Disney Cruise, thanks to all!
Can anyone tell me how we can join the FE group? It looks like such fun! ~Nikki

Lynn.... can we get an update FE/roster? Please and thanks!!! I need to know how many more "things";) I need to make. When is the cut off? 8/12?

Are there really only 4 children participating?

Welcome Julie, glad to see you posting! I have you listed with Beth.

i am not familiar with the fish extender, can you fill me in on what it is?:confused3

Hi everyone. :) I've been lurking more than posting these days, but we booked the cruise with a military discount around the time the DVC discount came out. It was too good of a deal to pass up. Especially since we don't have to fly anywhere this time.

This will be an adult only cruise, leaving the kids in school this time. So us and another couple.

I think I recognize some names from our Greece 2013 cruise thread too. :)

Hi Lynn, thanks for the welcome! I wish I could participate in the FE group, it sounds like fun, but I don't have a room # yet. The reservation is for a guaranteed deluxe ocean view, but not yet assigned. The is my first time getting a reserved room, I am not sure how this works, but I think I won't know until we get to the ship?

Just do a search for it and you'll find all sorts of info!!!

Essentially, you have a "fish extender" hanging from your fish outside your door (the search will show you pictures..we use a pocket per person....check out etsy or ebay for premade or custom ones.)

You put gifts in your cruisemate's fish extender. There are all sorts of threads with homemade ideas (and a facebook page too!) Spend as little or as much as you want. Some people will do a gift per person, some one gift per room. Remember that some people don't have a lot of room to bring things back, so size of the gift is also something to take into consideration. Most importantly, have fun!pixiedust:

i think i get the idea of fish extenders . would like to try . is there a list of people doing this ? hope im not offending anyone by being so new at this and asking so many questions. sounds like a fun group of people
