NBA at Walt Disney World

Like I said a few (or more) pages back.. they know they need to stay to be heard.. With continuing the season, it’s the difference between a single voice (Kyrie) speaking out and going mostly unheard - and a group in the spotlight using that spotlight to amplify that same voice. The players want their voices to lead to real change and that won’t happen overnight. What they lay down as a foundation to a movement while the attention is on them in the bubble, is what they take back to their communities going forward to build on. Then the real work begins to make changes that are more then just - talk.

Still completely missing the point.

The NBA, MLB, MLS, WNBA, and NFL did not cancel practices and games just because. I don’t know why I bother with people who refuse to understand why.

If people don’t get it by now, I’m not sure what would get them to understand. This is bigger than basketball. It doesn’t matter how much they’re being paid. Many of them donate to these very causes, they just don’t flaunt it

Also looks like NHL games will all wind up being pushed back. Games to be played today are now most likely tomorrow and tomorrow games are most likely Saturday.

Exactly. It’s because they clearly don’t care to understand.

One of the Milwaukee Bucks was actually a victim of excessive force by police in 2018 for parking over the line in a Walgreens parking lot. Didn’t matter how much money he made as an NBA player, he was still profiled and a victim of completely inappropriate excessive force. This issue has affected players personally.

Many, many players across the league have put their money where their mouth is on this issue. This isn’t some new thing and anyone who thinks it is hasn’t been paying attention.

And the video of that incident is available and clearly shows he did nothing wrong with his interaction with the police.

I unfortunately have many friends who want to simply marginalize what the players are doing instead of really listening to what they have to say which is sad but also why these things are important because some people are not going to listen until they have to.

Agreed. Anyone who thinks this is about a singular event has been living in their own bubble this year (at the very least.) It's just mind boggling to me how people are so quick to judge these players without really *listening* to what's being said, and trying to understand what's at the heart of the very, very longstanding pain point that's bubbling over.

It’s been going on for exactly 4 years in regards to this particular thing they’re protesting about.

I have no sympathy for corporate interests and NBA ownership.

It would take the highest paid NBA player 57 seasons to make the same amount of money that the “poorest” (white... because they’re all white) team owner, and yet, when stadiums and arenas shut down, it was the players stepping up to pay the staff who suddenly found themselves out of work.

They may be well compensated, but it’s nothing compared to the money their bosses make off these games and their influence in society. It’s unethical to be profiting from the labor and talent of BIPOC, while silently contributing to a system that keeps them marginalized and oppressed.

I highly recommend the book “Forty Million Dollar Slaves” to anyone who wants to further learn about the dynamics between professional sports ownership and athletes. It was eye opening for me.

NBA today for me is unwatchable anyway. I grew up in the Jordan era. It was physical. I remember hating the Pistons. They were dirty, but they were good.

There is nothing preventing them form starting their own league or playing over seas. They dont though because the easy money is more important than the issues you bring up.

I totally support the protests, but you're forgetting the greatest player of all time. In case you need a reminder, he's the black owner of the Charlotte Hornets. :teeth: :p
