Naturalization Papers

I raised this question before, but no one picked up on it. I hope that a Naturalization Certificate (Paper?) is OK instead of the birth certificate? Has anyone experienced this? I was told to check with the Bahamas Immigration.

We used our daughters' naturalization cert. with no problem. She was 19 mo. at the time (born in Canada, naturalized US citizen).

My husband will become a citizen next Saturday. He will receive a drivers license type card, showing he's been naturalized. His mother and father were both naturalized a few years back. Those cards are VERY valuable, and extremely hard to replace if lost. We are taking NO chances, and getting us ALL passports for future travels. That way, ALL we'll need is a drivers license and passport. No additional papers to tote along. That way, we run no unnecessary risk of losing his card. But yeah, if that is all you have it will do. Just be SO very careful with it..

I am the very reason why they tell you to get a passport once you have been naturalized. It was more than I wanted to spend at the time and I didn't do it. Big mistake. The night before we left for the trip to WDW and the cruise, we went to get all our documents out of the file where we put them. They were missing.

We didn't sleep that night and tore the house apart. We called the cruise line and told them our dilema. They said come and bring voter registration and driver's license but there were no guarantees. (This was about six years ago and thing were much more lax.) We didn't know until the morning of the cruise if they would let me on. They did.

The story gets worse when I tried to replace my document. No one had a record of it at the court house and I had to spend months trying to get it straightened out. The INS is not high tech and it is scarey how they keep records.

Spare yourself a lot of grief and pain and get a passport. The hard part is sending your naturilization document off in the mail. Everyone does it and yes, it does come back.

Thank you very much for the tip. I have been leaning toward getting a passport to avoid problems. Thanks again!
