Natural or color it?

I had my first grey hairs when I was 19-20. After I underwent chemo at age 33 I had a lot more white hairs - enough to make me look much older. Now I color it all the time. I go with what my natural color is.

My DH is younger than me and I don't like being mistaken for his mother.

I have had pure white hairs (look like cats whiskers) since I was 19 and you can be darn sure Ihave been coloring my hair ever since.

At 54, I've been coloring my hair off and on since I was 20!! I'm a redhead at heart, but only somewhat on my head. So, I make it more auburn. Now, I'm adding gold highlights to it also. I have a lot of white, about 25%!!! I'd let it go, but I have a 10 y/o dd who doesn't want her mom to 'look old'!!! But...my mil colors hers and has been since she was 30 I'm told. She does hers waaaay too dark. Looks really unnatural. So, go ahead..color it. Just pick a color that is somewhat close to your natural color, remembering that our hair naturally gets lighter as we age.

Funny story... My MIL changed the color of her hair constantly before I met DH. Looking back at pictures she was brown, then black then red, then..... who knows! It was comical!

Thank goodness now she has let it go natural gray, and IMO, it looks best that way.

I just started coloring mine last year at 44. I don't have a lot lot of gray but since my mother barely had any they bother me. LOL!!

My only problem with coloring is that I don't like the way my hair feels when it's colored.

I highlight mine. I really hope to never color it but am not sure whether I will or not. If you get close to it, you can see some gray strands in it but they blend in pretty good with the highlights at this point. I'd love that to be the way I go until I'm gray. The thoughts of gray roots and life planned around color appointments is not a good one to me.

I started getting gray at 27! No way way I going gray at that age. My hair is also VERY dark brown and it was very noticable even though it maybe only a few so I immediately started coloring it. I'm sorry and I know I may get flamed but I don't think any women under 40 should go gray! Unless you are blond and it is not noticable it just isn't a good look. But to each is own...I wouldn't do it!

I'm 40 now. My grays resist color at all costs. I have to do a level 3 every now and then to get them to accept color at all.

But I think I'll color my hair this weekend. Just a touch lighter than natural.

I color mine but I have it pulled through a highlight cap before the color is applied. Only have to do it about once every 3 months. If you use a color close to your natural shade it looks natural.

I tried a full-head application in the past and I didn't like how it looked - too much of one color. Plus, my hair grows fast and I was not about to commit to an appt. every 5 weeks.

Serena, if you want the color to cover your greys, you may have to up it to a level 4. Let us know how it turns out!

I'll color my hair probably until the day I die, or I have no hair left to color which ever comes first.

My grey is resistent also!! That's one of the reasons I go with the highlighting on top of the color. It makes it much less noticeble. But, when I'm ready for the auburn color, man, I'm ready. Right now I'm about 1-2 weeks overdue and it looks pretty bad. Wednesday can't come soon enough.

Emilou Harris has been gray for many, many years and I always thought it looked very sexy on her.

I let my gray stay where it is. I think it adds character.
