Nationwide Credit card

I've heard people mention the Nationwide Credit Card on the boards in the past and wondered if the "No commission abroad" benefits still apply?

Is it worth having one?

And, presumably, you can access the account on-line to check balances, make payments etc? (Silly question but there are some Credit cards out there that still don't have on-line access! - my wife has one!)

I have a Nationwide credit card which I only use for purchases in the USA. The good thing about it is that you get the bank exchange rate, rather than the tourist rate on purchases. For example, last month I ordered and paid for a birthday cake for my husband. Although the exchange rate at the time was approx $1.88 to the £, when the charge appeared on my CC statement, the rate I got was $1.927 to the £.

And, yes, you can get on-line access to your CC account, although you have to apply - it's not automatic.

I have one too, only use it in USA. I have online access but have not bothered with it to be honest. Just set the credit card to take full payment out of current account when we get back.

have had a nationwide credit card for a while and have just received my debit card for my cash.

Yes we have one too. Got it 3 years ago for trips abroad. Rather take it than loads of cash or travelers cheques.

Another who uses Nationwide credit and debit cards specifically for holidays abroad :thumbsup2

We have recently done this too ......just a warning...don't get the two cards mixed up (they are fairly similar).

I made a costly error in Turkey last year by accidently withdrawing cash on the credit card, since I only use them for holidays and wasn't very familiar with them :headache:

...now mine have BIG labels on each of them :rotfl:

But you get great exchange rates with either.

Do you need to apply for a credit card & a debit card? We are staying on site, would we use credit card to pay hotel costs ie disney shops and any shopping ie premium outlets and the debit for cash? Are there cash machines at Disney? Do you get the same ex rate for both cards?

Can anyone help?

I dont think you need to apply for both but it maskes sense to have both.

As you suggest - we use the credit card for all purchases and the Debit card for withdrawing cash. Before going abroad we load up the Debit account as I dont think it lets you get overdrawn. We have also set the credit card to have the full account paid off every month so we dont need to worry about credit card bills arriving when we're away.

I'm fairly sure we get the exact same exchange rate on both cards.

I reckon there are cash machines around Disney parks and Downtown but I'm not sure about the hotels. One thing to be wary of is that some cash machines charge a fee - we always use the machines at Publix as they dont charge.

Having had a Nationwide Credit Card for several years (use abroad and DVC dues etc), I've just opened a Current Account with them (had enough of Cahoot) and it was very easy and only took a few minutes on-line.

We have a cc but, as I understand it, you have to apply for a separate current / debit card account :)
