How hard is it to add someone to a cabin? And how close to the cruise can you do this? What pricing do you get? I know on some other lines the entire cabin gets rebooked at whatever the current price happens to be,

I believe it is just booking the additional person at the current price, not the whole cabin.

One issue to be aware of is that the person may not be able to be added if there is no room in the capacity for that lifeboat/muster station. Not sure how common that would be. Which is why we add them as soon as possible, then drop before cancelation penalties occur.

One other question! Is it easier/less expensive to add someone and drop them if they do not come?
Disney Cruise prices may go up but are very unlikely to go down. So, if it's before the final payment date and not Concierge (with a non-refundable deposit) it's better to book someone, then cancel before final payment if they can't come.

As mentioned above, the other risk is that the lifeboat capacity for the room's muster station could be reached even if your room can hold another passenger. If that happens, you'd need to change rooms in order to add another person.

I know you can add a guest to a room even after the final payment date, because I have done that.

As Doingitagain mentioned you may experience a problem if the life boats become an issue. We had an issue a few years ago when we had 5 in a family ocean view. My MIL wanted to come so we moved one of my daughters into her cabin. When my MIL changed her mind, we could not add my daughter back to our cabin. We had to upgrade to a family veranda at a significant jump in price.

To add a guest to a stateroom the following conditions must be met:
1. Does the stateroom sleep (you can’t add a 4th if that cabin only sleeps 3)
2. Is there space in the assigned lifeboat DCL is set up for flexibility in family size but that means more physical beds that lifeboat spots)
3. If a child, is there still space in the appropriate kids’ club (there are max kids allowed to book for each age group)

If all 3 above are ok, an additional guest can be added at the prevailing fare, which may be more than the rest of the party paid.

It is advisable to initially book everyone who may cruise, then cancel before PIF if someone needs to back out.
