Hi,
Can someone enlighten me:-
If I decide to take my Nationwide CC for cash withdrawals in Florida rather than travellers cheques will I get the tourist rate (which today is 1.81 with Travelex) or do Nationwide give you the business rate (1.88 today).

I realise there is a 2.5% charge for cash withdrawals but this might be outweighed by the difference in the rates above.
Thanks for any help....

You will get the Visa interbank rate, then Nationwide add on the thiir 2% as a seperate fee.

Some USA cashpoints will also charge you a fee- it will state this before you confirm you want to go ahead. The Presto ATMs in Publix are fee free.

If you get a Nationwide Debit Card, there's no charge for withdrawals abroad at all:cool1:

When we used the Nationwide credit card in the USA (July) the exchange rate was very good mostly at $2 to the £, normally you expect it to at the selling price but I thought it must have been at the proper exchange rate.

Yep, this is what my bf plans on using if he needs extra cash. He gets paid while we're away so it works out quite well :) I've applied for an account with them too, I just want to get shot of HSBC but that's another story!

I would never used the Credit card for cash, even the Nationwide one, as they charge a much higher APR and its charged from the date of the transaction- you have no grace period to pay it off and avoid getting charged like purchases.
The Flexaccount debit card is much better, no charges at all. Just make sure they charge you in $$ and not offer to convert it into £. Bloomingdales and Neium marcus both offered to do this on their tills, you get a really bad exchange rate if you do this, and will wipe out the point of getting the card in the first place.

Be careful and read all the small print guys. I think you'll find that whilst your UK bank does not charge, there may be an overseas ATM charge made by the owner of the ATM and this is often passed onto the customer. Call me old fashioned but I use the good old Travellers Cheque! They're cashable without ID, change is given and they're insured too. All this with commission free purchase and a higher exchange rate than cash.

Apologies....this was taken from Nationwide site...
"We do not charge you for using cash machines abroad but the machine providers may charge. We have no control over this."

It tends to be places like Casinos (if only:rotfl2: ) & ATM's within conveneince stores I think that charge for use and this normally is displayed on the machine clearly a bit like in UK shops.
So worst case scenario is you will be charged once maximum with Nationwide Card....we never have though:cool1:

I have heard of people being being asked to show ID when paying by TC, shops are within their rights to ask.

I have quite a few times been asked for ID when using a TC, even a $20 TC, and quite right so as they are easy to use with a fake signature.
