National Lampoon's February Quest For Fun!!~ LIVE UPDATE 2/9 post 852

I love Target and I love the travel aisle! We're lucky enough to have 2 super Targets. I live between them. One does have a better travel aisle. I started making my shopping list today. I'll go back and see what I have left from the last trip to see if I can mark some stuff off. I'm pretty sure I'm going to need some more washing powder from the travel aisle and most def some more ponchos. I'm cheap and buy the coleman ones they sell at Target. I need to check out the $1 section. I haven't bought anything for Danielle's surprise bag yet. She really loved getting the bag last year. I think I might break down and order some park stuff from the Disney site. I'm all out of glow stuff. Michelle has something for her sorority that required they wear glow in the dark stuff so she and her "sisters" cleaned me out. So much to do and so little time. I just committed to visiting my half sister in Mobile for the weekend. I only have so many weekends left to get stuff done.

:woohoo:Travel Aisle:woohoo:

no need to go any further. I have resisted the urge for another week at least.

I have told you all before, I don't have a Wal-Mart within 50 miles of my home, so a Target is like the holy land for me as it is a good 2 1/2 hours to find one of those. I went to the Target while at my MIL's over the weekend and they took out their travel aisle!!!:scared1::eek:

They had one end cap with q-tips, pantene, a first aid kit, and the plastic containers for toothbrushes, soap and etc.

Not sure where I'll get my supplies now! Sheesh. :sad2:

Great Buys :goodvibes

Target is so addictive and dollar section always draws me in :rotfl:

I  the travel size aisle. Target is one of my vices too :lmao:

The Color Wonder books are the best.

I am completely addicted to the Target dollar section! I always end up spending at least $5 in it when we go. We don't have one in our small town either though, have to go to "the big city" to go to Tar-jaaay! Piper got a ten dollar gift card in her advent calendar, so guess we'll have to go soon..and check out the travel aisle :rolleyes1: Good thing Santa gave her that gift card ;)

Hi Cherie! (Is it pronounced "Sherry" or "Sha-REE" - or another way? I have to know these things so I say it right in my head)

Anyway, I just found your PTR - and the title drew me in. LOVE those Vacation movies! Our family trips were just like that too. We drove across country from St Louis to California several times - and we always made sure to stop to see the world's largest ball of twine, Or some other crazy tourist trap.

Good job on your binder - I guess I need to start one of my own. Now, do you use yours just for planning, or do you take it with you?

I've got the same Baggalini, except in the khaki color. I'm actually thinking of getting something else this year - something lighter maybe? I wish I could just go bagless!

:welcome:
Mine is pronounced "sherry". Winkers is the other pronunciation. Spelled the same! Too cool. :thumbsup2

:rotfl2: I love how everyone has old crazy vacation stories. So fun to look back on!

Thanks about the binder. Yes, I take mine with me but not into the parks. Since we drive, I have the confirmation information on the hotel going there and the one coming back. Plus our Disney confirmations. All I have to do is unclip the page I need and bring it in with me while checking in. :thumbsup2 Well.....except when checking in at WDW. I bring the whole thing because it just makes me feel good. :lmao:

I wish I could go bagless too but I've got too much junk to carry around. :rolleyes1

I love it too! But haven't been in about 3 weeks. I think I'm totally overdo for a Target run!

I still have a ton of travel sized things from when I went to Cali in April. But I still want to buy more. Is it wrong to filling a cart full of dollar deals and travel sized things?

That is too cute! I collect frog things, and although I already know how to tell time, I think I need that! And one of my friends at work collects owls. I think I just talked myself into stopping at Target before going to work.

Yay for 30 day (tomorrow)!! I've got 29 as of today and can't handle it. I want to go NOW!

I WANT TO GO NOW TOO!!!! :yay:
Too funny that you've talked yourself into a Target run. I do the same thing. Glad I'm not the only one.
I don't know how I'm not on your PTR already! :confused3 What the heck??? Anyhoo, I just joined and hope we see ya at WDW!

2 SUPER TARGETS??? *THUD* That is AWESOME!!
I know what you mean about running out of time. I've been thinking I have too much time but now I realize I don't have much at all! I have to plan DS's B-Day party BEFORE we leave because it will be happening shortly after we get back. PLUS, the week we leave for Florida is "appreciation week" at school and I'm the room mom! :scared1: Every day is appreciation of someone different. Example- monday is custodial day, tues is secretary day, blah blah and then FRIDAY IS TEACHER DAY.....THE FRIDAY THAT WE ARE LEAVING FOR FLORIDA!!!!!!:scared1: To say that I am scurrying around right now trying to plan is an understatement.

well...we are going NEXT MONTH

EXACTLY!!!!! :woohoo:

NO TRAVEL AISLE???? :scared1:*DOUBLE THUD* That is one of the most horrible things I've ever heard.

Great Buys :goodvibes

Thanks
Yes they do! They know what they are doing with that dollar stuff. DAGNABIT!!!

:rotfl2: I love that you say Tar-jaaay too. We do that here.
Yay for the gift card!! :woohoo:

 Naaaa, not here Melissa. Since were on a girls thread, it's even more fun to talk about shoe obsessions!!! :woohoo:  Although Jordy is a great sport about it on his. :thumbsup2
Melissa, so what have you come up with so far? popcorn::

Nothing yet which is worriesome. We're almost 3 months out and the fact that I've really been looking for the perfect casual shoe for about a year now, not even knowing about this trip, is what worries me. I like the looks of something like this:
http://www.zappos.com/spring-step-capers
but worry about the comfort for a week of theme park walking!
I also saw these:
http://www.zappos.com/keen-saratoga-ii
but am not in love with the "modified tennies" look. But anything is better than actual tennies. I don't mind if other women wear them I just hate the way they look on me.

I think I'm going to hit the shoe stores "in town" this weekend for one last shot before I just order a bunch of shoes from Zappos and then return all the rejects (for free!). ;)

I live in a small town too, about one step bigger than yours. It's got about 7 stoplights I think (basically one at each on ramp and a couple near the Walmart). I can count on one hand all the "real" restaurants, if real can be defined as a mom and pop burger joint next door to WalMart! The closest Target is 25 mins away but it is the "ghetto" Target and for whatever reason Target chooses not to disclose, they do not have as much and as nice stuff in that one. For "good shopping" I have to go 45 mins. Not as bad as your 2 hrs but growing up in OC, CA it is a hard adjustment to make. Anyway....I just wanted to say shop online!!! Amazon.com has just about everything (maybe not travel sized stuff though) and most qualifies for free shipping after only $25. Overstock is good for shipping costs as well. Piperlime and Zappos has free shipping too! Most everyone has free shipping but only if you hit a minimum. The ones I listed have no or low minimums. I live for online shopping now!

WooooHooo! I love me some travel isle!!! :woohoo: Before diving into the world of PTR's (let's be honest...Jordy's) I thought I was the only one who knew the secret world of the travel isle. :ssst: I too have resisted the urge to keep away.....well for the most part. In my defense I only bought hand wipies, actually (enter sutto potty humor) they are butt wipies, but who the heck is gonna know?? :confused3 Right?!? I hate, and I mean HATE wet ones, the smell makes me want to..... well you get the point. I'm really excited about the mini bottle of Febreeze Blue!! I'm hoping I will find it here. <crossing fingers>

Your trip is in April, right? You still have time. Now worries. I'm wondering if the one's you've picked out might be to hot to wear for WDW? I'm not familiar with April weather there, but knowing Floridia past March, it's usually warm. I'm sure you know to get what ever your going to wear and wear them around for a while before you go, that way you'll know how comfy they are. I looked at it this way...I figured if the shoes I just bought aren't quite right for WDW, they will still be good for home. No money wasted that way....as it turns out I love them!!!:love::love: I'm very happy. Now I need to find a sandal type. I mentioned before the Chaco's, have you looked at those? They look kinda chunky, but are really great for support and shock absorbtion (all that walking you know) cute, sporty for shorts and capris and usuall,y have some fun colors. Just thought I would metion them, hope it doesn't make your choices harder.

PS-We do 90% of our shopping online (excluding groceries). I don't like giving Wal-Mart money if it can be helped, that's why the lack of travel aisle at Target was so disappointing. :guilty:

I have never tried zappos. I will look around. I like looking on Amazon for just about anything. And overstock is cool too.

I'm hitting it tomorrow !! In search of wipes for sure !!!:worship::rotfl2:

:rotfl2: I actually saw them there but didn't get any. What if they dry out before the trip??

The febreeze smells good!!

I don't care for the smell of wet one's either but they kill pretty much any virus. Remember that virus that was going around last year? They had a bad outbreak at WDW. Wet One's was the only wipe that had a certain chemical in them that killed that virus. Needless to say, I bought A LOT of them last year.

We do too! We also call the Salvation Army Store "Sally's Boutique" which sounds SO much more exclusive, doesn't it?? :cool2:

:rotfl2: It does sound good.

I hate Walmart.
I love shopping online!! It's so nice and peaceful. :cloud9:

So today marks 30 days until we LEAVE for Disney World. We won't actually get there until the next day but HEY....WE'RE HEADED FOR DISNEY!!! :woohoo:

Today DS got to pull the first Mickey Head from our countdown calendar....

Under #30 was a picture of T-Rex cafe'!! He was super excited. I asked him what his favorite thing was about eating there last year. He said it was the show they do with the meteor and all the dinosaurs start screaming. I asked him what he was most excited about this time at T-Rex. He said "MOOOMMM.....EVERYTHING, OF COURSE!!" :lmao:

Today while DS was at school I started my craziness of pre-trip preparing. I made lists, phone calls, and trips to certain businesses to get ready for DS's birthday party which is RIGHT AFTER WE GET HOME!! :scared1: Yes, that's right....I get to plan an entire party BEFORE I leave for my trip. Let the craziness begin!! :upsidedow I'll explain more on that later. For now, I'd like to show you the 2 NEW SHIRTS I got today! I was at JC Penney with a friend and they had a great sale going on. I was able to snag a cute sweater and a hoodie. 50% OFF, BABY!! :thumbsup2

Let us now reflect on this trip and how it came to be. Last year we took what we thought was our last trip in February. DS is now in Kindergarten and we figured he would not be able to be pulled from school for vacation. That is until I got desperate because I saw Winkers plan a trip for Feb, and Jordan plan a trip for Feb, and then Rosie plan a trip for Feb, and then they came out with a buy 4 GET 3 FREE deal!!! Everytime one of the things mentioned above happened, DH could hear me yelling at my computer...."OH COME ON!!!!!!"....."YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!" Toward the end he would just yell back...."who's going NOW??" :lmao: The 3 free deal was the last straw. I took a chance and talked to DS's teacher and asked her how she felt about parents taking kids out for vacation. She was COMPLETELY SUPPORTIVE!!!! WHAT???!!!! Needless to say, I was in shock. I really wasn't expecting that. Actually, today she told me that I will be the 4th person this year to go to WDW from DS's class. :yay: She is totally fine with it and said she'd give me his school work for that week.......my idea....she wasn't even going to worry about it since he is doing so good. I went straight home that day and booked our trip. So,when I thought it was completely impossible for us to go on a trip this February due to DS being in school and DH's work schedule not working out for us, a window opened. Suddenly it was all possible. Almost completely out of nowhere! It is meant to be. It just is.

What's going on with me for the next 30 days?? ALLOW ME TO EXPLAIN THE CRAZINESS OF MY WORLD.........

Here is a quick list of what I have going on:

1. Trip planning (shopping, packing, planning, making garden grocer order, making our dog a reservation for doggie camp, re-checking our reservations & ADR's)

2. Field Trip!! Coming up, we have a field trip at school. They are going to a "safety day" seminar at our civic center. I will help chaparone.

3. Planning DS's birthday party as mentioned above. I was able to confirm with our usual cake bakery that they do not use batter or icing with anything peanut in them. They also take care to not use the same tools. :thumbsup2 I have also reserved a bouncer/slide combo thing for our back yard. The prices to rent those are COMPLETELY UNFAIR!!:headache: DS has chosen his theme (Hot Wheels) so on pay day I need to go buy all the stuff like table cloths, plates, napkins, cups, & treat bags for the guests. I think I'm going to get a pinata too since he's been asking for one since his last birthday.

4. Appreciation Week at School. As I've mentioned before, I'm part room mom for DS's class this year. I actually have a co-room mom but she owns a retail store here in town and is usually very busy. I'm still not quite sure why she signed up for room mom at all. :confused3 She is in NY at market right now. She will come back for a week and then she will go to Dallas for market. This is not helping me. As usual I will take matters into my own hands. I have a parent who said she and her husband would love to cook for our teacher's meal. Maybe I should stop here and tell you that appreciation is an entire week long. One day is custodian appreciation, then secretary appreciation, then parent appreciation, then student appreciation, and finally teacher appreciation. One of my room mom papers says the teacher day is on that monday and one says it's on that friday. Well.....we won't be her on that Friday because that's when we are leaving for WDW. I'm still trying to get this straight before I totally freak out. Ok, so back to the parents who said they will cook. I swear I think they are a God send. I'm so glad for this!! Now I still need to get a gift card for our custodian, a gift card for our teachers aide, a desert for the teachers luncheon, and oversee the dinner being cooked for the teacher and her family. Yes, you read that right. For teacher appreciation day we cook an entire dinner for the teacher and her family so that she has a "night off". It's nice. I don't mind it one bit. Especially for the teacher he has this year. She is WONDERFUL. The one last year....not so much. :rolleyes1

5. Valentine's Day DS will not be at school for the class Valentine party. Which means I will also not be there to plan the party out! So, I am planning and buying Valentine's and treats for the kids NOW. I will leave all of this with the teacher the day before we leave so she has it all. She is going to set DS's Valentines and treats that he gets from other kids aside for when he comes back. :thumbsup2

6. Mardi Gras DS will also be missing the Mardi Gras celebration at his school. I'm sort of disappointed about this one but he doesn't seem to mind. I guess that means I should just get over it. Kindergarten parents make parade "floats" for the kindergarten kids out of wagons. The street in front of the school is closed off and pre-k gets to come out and stand on the sidewalk to watch the parade. Kindergarteners dress up and ride in their "float" which is pulled by the 8th graders. Kindergarten kids get to throw beads and candy to the pre-k kids just like a real parade. How fun!! See why I"m sort of disappointed??? Oh well, anyway...... there is not much for me as room mom to do for this. I will have been gone for about a week by the time this happens. My "co-room mom" is going to HAVE TO step up and get the cake and things for the party. But I would like to get a pretty brooch or something for the teacher and the aide from DS for Mardi Gras. So really, I don't have to do much for this one......except spend more money.

When people said sending your kid to a private school was expensive, I thought they meant the tuition!! Ok actually that is not cheap either. But it's all the extra stuff!! It seems like it is a constant thing. Money money money!! :guilty:

As you can see, the next 30 days are going to be crazy! I hope I can get it all done and still keep a little of my sanity by the time we leave for WDW.

Yes Blue as the New Year came I really geered up for this trip!!I can't believe it all workedout that we would be there together !! I was toying with May and then Christine couldn't go and Feb is cheaper sooo I joined the group !!! Can you imagine what June 2012 planning is gonna be like !! I think a bunch ofpeople are planning to go!!!

2012 is going to be awesome!! I'm leaving it up to fate as to whether we do the cruise or WDW. Even if we do the cruise, I think we will still do at least 1-2 days at WDW just so we can meet up with the people who won't be on the cruise. :goodvibes

If I win the Lottery maybe the whole family would do both !!! Otherwise I am just doing WDW!!

Wow, you do have a lot going on leading up to the trip! Live by the "To Do" list and you'll get through it.
