Ok we have always rented through dollar. I saw the posts about the KLM code for national and signed up for flying blue. Then I just went to check the price of the week we need in June. Is the taxes really included in the price? Just want to make sure I understand the cost.

If you are on the final page of your national rental, with the confirmation number, etc, yes, that will be the final cost, taxes included -- within a few dollars anyway. The rental companies always seems to leave a little wiggle room for extra taxes....but it is never more than a few bucks.

A big CAVET, the code you are using has some decided benefits, and if you can't figure those out by looking at your final confirmation, sorry, I can't help you :).

But, in the past few years, most of the time, you can do better if you don't need/want those benefits. For example, right now, Dollar offers city specials (a link that comes up in the middle of your quote when you check prices). Those City Specials have been offering tremendous rates. However, June is so far away, dollar may not be offering those city specials -- yet.

Right now, you are five months out, so the special rate you just got looks good. Try the special rate for your June rental date a few weeks out from your trip, and then try other rates/codes/promos -- National included -- and odds are you can do better.

In other words rates for June are sky-high across the board at probably all firms (Hertz, National, Avis, Alamo, etal) right now. As your trip date approaches, those rates will usually drop by a significant percentage, meanwhile, the code you are now getting such great rates with will not drop, or not by much.

So, reserve now with your code if it makes you happy -- but keep checking, all ways and all companies -- unless you absolutely NEED those special benefits (which most do not). The best rates usually come a few days before the rental period (unless they sell-out....oppsies)>

When you're on National's car class selection page, you'll see something along the lines of "$284.72 Rental Period" under a car picture for each car class, with the amount depending on your contract code, car class, and rental/return dates and times.

That amount does not include taxes and fees.

But if you click on a car class, the next page will estimate the complete total, including all taxes and fees, breaking down what all the taxes and fees are. My experience with National is that this number is quite close to the actual amount you'll be charged at return.

I went ahead and booked it for now. I got an 8 day rental for a 4 door Standard rental for $254. I think the price is pretty good. But yes I will continue to keep looking. Up until that point the cheapest I had found was over $100 more for the same type of car.

With the KLM code do you need any kind of member card or anything to show them? I signed up for the flyingblue thing so I would be legit but it didn't say anything about sending me a card or anything.

You know, I am a bit cranky now, having just washed two uncooperative rottweilers outside in 34-degree weather.

The real answer to your question is look it up yourself. You obviously have a computer. You probably know about search engines and this same question has been asked many times on this board and on several others.

Indeed, I was going to scold you and then answer your question, but after typing all that, I think I will say "Google is your friend."

Wow someone told me to check out these boards because they are helpful and everyone is so nice. Sorry I asked.

kjlermer.....I think I used the same KLM code as you. I booked with National today for 10 days during Easter break. Standard (4 door) $273. I called before I booked it and asked that same question....it does include taxes, etc. The person I spoke to recommended printing up confirmation and bringing it on trip. Also asked about KLM code, if "proof" required and he said only if it specified on reservation. I did not see that on mine, only that I used the KLM code. I've read on boards that many do not carry a specific card for this. Hope that helps. P.S. I thought I replied to this but couldn't find it afterwards....so it may be floating around on another board. Sorry about that.

I don't know why you are getting so much hostility from one poster :confused3 . Not that it is an excuse, but I am guessing they are just having a bad day. Don't let their issues turn you off the Dis....we are mostly a very friendly and helpful bunch.

The price you see using the KLM discount is your final price, including tax :thumbsup2 . The rate also includes a whole bunch of extra insurance coverages too. You will see those listed on your rental confirmation.

Print your confirmation and have it with you when you pick up your vehicle. Also have your KLM Flying Blue membership confirmation (which you can print from the Flying Blue website) in case you are asked for it. Better to have it and not need it, than to not have it and be asked for it.

Be sure to subscribe to the appropriate thread for your rental month (which I think you said is June) on this forum. Folks are generally pretty good at sharing their most recent deals on rental vehicles for a certain travel period. And its fun watching rates together and helping one another secure the best rate possible.

Any other questions, feel free to ask :) .

Hey, folks:

I answered the original question. Look at my post.

Gina repeated my answer mostly.

I just think that answering the same questions over and over again sort of clogs the boards.

If you don't think so, OK.

And, I do not think it is hostility. The same question has been asked and answered several times here and XXXXX times on other boards.

so, I think the real thing, which should probably be debated on another thread is do we expect to answer the same questions over and over, or do we expect that people will do some work on their own to answer their questions and then when they run into a wall, ask for help?

It's a bit of a what do you want to do sort of thing.

On most boards, people expect people to search first, and then ask if they can't find an answer.

If that is not the case here, fine, but it does clog the boards....

With all due respect, Ranger, that is why we have moderators for these boards. If they see something that shouldn't be happening or asked, and want to address it, then that's their role....not ours.

These boards are filled with the same questions being asked over and over (I cant tell you how many times the Southwest Early Bird Check-In has been discussed, or their open seating policy). Over on the resorts board, its which moderate resort is best....or whether its worth it to upgrade....or if someone should book their room with free dining or a PIN for the best deal. The Orlando Hotels & Attractions board frequently addresses the onsite-versus-offsite debate or which timeshare is the nicest. This KLM code, because its kind of different, raises a lot of questions....particularly for a new poster (which you both appear to be, judging by your post counts). Because it is so different from some of the other discounts out there, it gets a lot of chatter.

Gee wiz cut the OP some slack he is new and this was their first question on the boards. And YES you were very mean and hostile toward this poster.

They probably don't know all the functions available on the boards.

kjlermer not sure why they are being mean to you but we are very helpful here so don't let this jerk deter you from asking questions. Welcome to the board pixiedust:

Gee, I appreciate the Name-calling from this "nice board."

At least Gina gave a thoughtful answer, I appreciate her input. I don't really agree, but on these boards you go with the flow, and if that is the flow to repeat and repeat, no big deal to me.

However, I would appreciate some respect. I did answer the original question, I did not call anyone names.

Can you say the same for yourself, sheesh.

Just wondering why this KLM code is so different than any other code one would use? Personally, I've never used a KLM code before. Never knew what one was until I found this board. I'm just happy that I got such a good rate on a rental car and appreciate the helpfulness. Hope there are no glitches at the rental car agency. First time using National and first time using this KLM code...fingers crossed.

Thanks so much to those of you that have been helpful and kind. Sorry for the repeated question. It just seemed that the rate was too good to be true with all the extra additions. I was always taught if it seems too good to be true it probably is lol. Glad this time it isn't!

Of course, no one says you have to answer ANY question. If you don't want to answer, it's easy... don't click "reply".

You joined, so you have a number. Write it down, print it out, keep your smartphone with the email handy. That way you have the info if you need it.

Replies like this clog it, too.

I've done a google search and gotten the Dis (works better than using the dis search function) many times. Just assume that there are 10 people doing a search and getting the answer for everyone 1 person that asks again. Makes your life happier.

My family washed our malamutes in the tub. Did involve us putting them into the tub, which isn't easy, but is much nicer than washing them outside in the cold. The typical malamute is smaller than the typical rottweiler, but our last malamute was odd and was about 120 which is getting up there. Still washed him in the tub! I highly recommend it. Might make for a bit less crankiness than washing outside in the cold.

Who ever told you the DiS was nice? It has a well known rep for attacking

So true.

Just wondering why this KLM code is so different than any other code one would use?

Because KLM worked out an amazing deal for their frequent flier plan members.
