My best friend and I were just on the phone and talking about the fact we both teared up when we heard the National Anthem for the Super Bowl. Anyone else do this when they hear the song?

She has several students whose parents wil be deployed over the next couple of weeks and I know a few friends whose husbands are on alert status to leave.

Just curious if anyone gets misty-eyed when they hear the National Anthem.

Always have, probably always will. It's always the same for some weird reason - I get a tear in the corner of my left eye.

(the only time it doesn't happen is when I'm watching Naked Gun)

Yep, tears in my eyes too.

Celine Dion's rendition of "God Bless America" always has me BAWLING though!! So beautiful!

In the past, many times... but not today :) I agree, Celine Dion's God Bless America was/is beauitful!!!

From the first time I raised my hand to salute during the National Anthem when I was in AF Basic Training (April 78) until now I always get goose bumps. I've cried a few times (Whitney Houston's rendition always makes me cry) but the goose bumps always happen no matter where I hear it.

Yep, I was fighting back the tears today. The Chicks did a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem and with the service men and women it just made it that much more...

While I do agree that Celion does a beautiful version of God Bless American, I do have a problem with the fact that she is Canadian, not American.

On occasion...but tonite I had goose bumps.

GO BUCS!!! :bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce:

I did and I think the Dixie Chicks did the best job of it that I have seen.

Always, always. Parades when the flag comes by too. I'm a big sap when it comes to patriotic things.

I didn't get to watch the National Anthem part tonight, did the Dixie Chicks sound good or was it real twangy?

I didn't think it was twangy at all (and even though I'm a country fan, I won't listen to the twangy sounding country-except for Darryl Worley.)

Always, even when i see something like the Veterans carrying thier flag in our hometown parades. Normally I don't care forthe Dixie Chicks, but it was great. Oh, but I don't tear up durring a stupid redition like Roseanne Barr's, except to cry over the insanity of it.

I just wish everyone would realize that the nation anthem is not a performance number but is a SING ALONG song!!! I just hate it when "performers" take liscense with the rhythm and temp so that it is impossible to sing along!

I am not a huge Dixie Chicks fan, but I have to say that their rendition of the Star Spangled Banner was incredible and very powerful... My husband and I both had tears in our eyes..

Celine is an incredible singer and I have no problem with her beautiful voice singing God Bless America.. I believe she has a home in Las Vegas and probably pays taxes here.......and also Canada is part of North America so why not let her sing it..... JMO

I agree with the above post. An "american" should have sung the song "God Bless America"

. Do you think Canada would have a mexican or a US citizen sing there National Anthem?

I was so glad to hear the Dixie Chicks sing it like it was meant to be sung and not try to turn it into a five minute piece of "art"

I love Celine Dion's version of God Bless America, I didn't see her on the Superbowl, but I saw her sing it shortly after 9/11. The fact that she is Canadian made me love it even more. I felt flattered that a Canadian loves America so much that she sang the anthem, nothing more.

I wish I had seen the Dixie Chicks last night! Can't bear football though. I'm hoping I can see a highlight of it on tonight.
